"A real gem tucked down an alley off the high street. We have been several times for coffee and cakes there is a wide an interesting collection of drinks and other goodies including croissants, buns etc. The breakfast menu looks great with a creative offer and not the traditional offer of a fry up. Last night we went for another evening meal. This is real authentic Greek food cooked by the proprietor. We particularly loved the starters, so different from other so called greek restaurants . The wine list is interesting and all from Greece and realistically priced. The interior is comfortable and attractively designed. The chef husband and his wife who serves are professional and a,ways friendly."

"I have been coming to Alfriston for many, many years, as just live in nearby Brighton. We were so excited to learn that Alex Polizzi had totally renovated The Star. We booked to come here for my birthday on 4th March. We were disappointed that we were not able to dine in the main restaurant for our late lunch. We had to dine in the main pub area which although was pleasant, we were dressed smartly for the restaurant, so felt quite overdressed in the pub area. The lady who served us was very polite and friendly. We had a three course meal and each of us had a glass of Prosecco and a glass of Malbec. The food was delicious. I started with Sicilian tomato and basil Arancini and my partner opted for the tomato Gazpacho soup which quite frankly, could have fed a family of 4! I’ve never seen such a large portion of gazpacho in my life! It was far too much really.. I had to help him out. For the main, we both chose the chicken Milanese which was absolutely delicious and for dessert, we both chose the chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream. All the lovely staff, including the chef came out to sing happy birthday to me with a candle in my dessert. : We then spent some time in front of the fire chatting with our coffee and then a glorious half an hour or so in the library reading the newspapers and looking at books which is usually just meant for residents, but it was very quiet on the day we went for our lunch so we were allowed entrance. One of the staff showed us the secret door in the library, too! : Everywhere is immaculately spotless, including the toilets which are equipped with lovely hand-wash and hand cream. There is an area equipped with Wellington boots and waterproof capes for inclement weather, and sun hats to put on in the beautiful courtyard for the spring and summer months …they’ve thought of everything! We did not stay at The Star, as we just live down the road in Brighton, so cannot comment on the rooms. This Hotel/Restaurant is high-end and I highly recommend this place for special occasions."

"The Guljar Tandoori Lydd, Romney Marsh On our last night of our holiday in Camber Sands we went for dinner at The Guljar Tandoori Restaurant. We had a very warm welcome by Mohammed who explained the menu of the Banquet Night. We ordered our food and soon had our starters which was well presented and delicious. The mains soon followed which was very plentiful and very tasty, each dish had its distinct taste and flavour. Everyone in our group was filled at the end of the meal. Yousuf at front of house was very friendly and professional in his approach. The set Banquet was very good value. The desert menu was not reflective of the food menu, it looked like pre-prepared desserts and not Indian based so we didn’t have desert. Overall very good food and good value."

"We have previously had some fantastic food here, but had a terrible time when we visited on Sunday. We rang ahead to ask for a table and were advised that we could order food up to 8pm. We said that we were 10 minutes away, arrived just before 8pm, ordered our food but were then asked what table we were sitting at. Went back to the table to find out, then when we got back to the bar, were told that we were too late for food, even though we had placed the order. Was a real shame as it was our last night and we had previously had such a good time before."

"Had booked a table for a Sunday roast! Disappointed as there was no chicken as a choice of meat on the Sunday roast menu!!! Therefore, as I don’t eat Pork, Beef or Lamb had to choose from the standard menu! Partner had roast beef dinner,...very small portions, had 3 roast potatoes and only 2 medium slices of beef!!! There was a nice variety of vegetables and a large Yorkshire pudding with gravy! However just not enough for an adults meal! And expensive for what you got! Very little atmosphere and was not very welcoming. Did not come over to us to check everything was ok during the meal! Felt very disappointed and will be checking in future that where we go for a Sunday roast does have a chicken/turkey option!"
