"Popped in for lunch on a busy Saturday after hearing good reviews and must say we were impressed. Rose Cottage is a lovely, welcoming traditional cafe, not trying to be anything its not which is so refreshing. At first glance the menu is a standard range of sandwiches, panini and jacket potatoes, but between us we tried all three and the standard really is excellent. Mum declared her panini the best she’s ever had, and my husband tucked into his hearty JP with chilli and cheese. Great quality ingredients and obviously prepared with much care. At around £8 per head including coffees we felt we’d had great value for money too. We’ll be back soon for a cream tea, several people were enjoying fresh scones and we just couldn’t quite find room. Thanks ever so much"

Wow, what a hidden gem! I just enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at this restaurant. The food was excellent and so was the service. I will definitely be coming back.

Lovely festive afternoon tea here as a treat from my daughter. Plentiful sandwiches with delicious fillings! We couldn't move at the end!! Would recommend. Nice location too.

Vegetable Hotpot superb. So was jacket potato. Welcoming. Very nice staff. Not wheelchair accessible. Steps on entry and to counter plus toilets upstairs. Food excellent. Covid arrangements good. Ver carta

A lovely little spot in my local town. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The service is always great, it’s always very busy which is a credit to the place. Food is amazing, I highly recommend the Bacon, Brie and Cranberry Panini which is served with a few tortilla chips. Also give the ice cream milkshakes a try :

We decided to try here for breakfast as we have tried a few other places around the area but not here. Due to Covid restrictions you order at the counter and the order is served to you. The food was fine. We had a breakfast wrap and a bacon and sausage roll. The service was fine and the food was good. We would probably try here again for another meal.

Visited for 1st time today Monday 21st March 2022. We were the only customers for a while. A very good menu and price wise was very good. I liked that they did gluten free toast which was very nice with marmalade. Coffees were ok, were very hot but to us not strong enough. Staff didnt seem very sociable at all. Do have a toilet but i found the whole property hard going with 3 steps to the counter and more to visit the loo. Ver carta

A favourite is the cheese and onion toasted sandwich, but recently an open vegetable toasted sandwich has been added to the menu and maybe my new favourite. During the lockdowns ordered afternoon tea to be delivered. The ordinary one is great, but so is the cheese one. Had both together to give us a savoury and sweet treat. Wide range of teas offered, plus coffees and milkshakes. The staff will adapt the menu to any requests if they can.

I went for morning coffee with a friend. The place was not overly fancy, but it was pleasant, clean, and had everything we needed. The drinks and cakes were reasonably priced and tasty. They also had a variety of gluten free cakes available, such as classic brownies, carrot cake, flapjacks, and a peanut dessert. The staff was friendly and attentive. I noticed they were also serving breakfast and sandwiches to other customers, which looked like good value for money.

"We stayed for one night prior to a flight at East Midlands Airport and everything was excellent, from the warm, welcoming staff, to the rooms and the simply delicious food (evening and breakfast). Firstly the pub: food, drinks, restaurant… All excellent. The sign of a great pub for ale drinkers is one with knowledgeable staff who are keen to let you sample before deciding on a pint. This was the case here and we worked through all five real ales during the afternoon and evening! Also a great selection of wines, and everything served in the correct glasses I loved the attention to detail. Then the evening meal in the restaurant area of the pub: this was also excellent, with a great menu and top food, in plentiful portions. Really delicious all ‘round. We didn’t manage desserts but starters and mains all great. The pub/restaurant is well presented inside and out, with a lovely beer garden at the back. Secondly, the hotel rooms: we were in rooms 1 2 and both were lovely. They were well presented, comfy beds, nice hospitality tray (with fresh milk in the in room fridge), nice toiletries. The room rate included breakfast, which was all freshly cooked to order and once again, a great selection. I would 100% stay here again, especially if going to/from East Midlands airport which was less than a 10 minute drive. A lovely, traditional country Inn with excellent food and hospitality. Thank you to the full team."

"Nipped in for a quick bite on a Friday evening. We went up to what looked like the restaurant bar and asked if it was possible to get a table but were directed to the main bar to ask about this. The place was packed- getting served at the internal bar would have been a bit of a fight. Had a similar experience on a visit here before because there's not much space around the bar so you tend to get an impenetrable crowd instead of any sort of line. Eventually managed to get the attention of a member of staff and were told the restaurant was fully booked, however we could sit outside and order food at the bar to our outside table. Would have saved us some time if that was communicated through the team and relayed by the first person we asked instead of sending us to queue elsewhere. We did order to an outside table, and the food was excellent. The small pizzas really are quite small. But if you have a couple of sides they're perfect to not overstuff you. If you want to just eat pizza probably get a large. Also they had really interesting topping selections on the pizzas- I had the spiced aubergine, creme fraiche and honey. It was absolutely delicious. The chips were hot and well seasoned, the greek salad also really nice- I did miss the addition of peppers and would possibly remove the pea shoots and sub in the peppers to improve this and keep it more authentic though. Drinks were nice and the atmosphere inside was quite cosy and outside had a nice vibe with the tasteful lightning and wooden furniture. Would definitely return (but probably make a reservation. It's busy for a reason!"
