"If you ever find yourself on the Kintyre Caledonian Macbraynes ferry from Lochranza on the Isle of Arran, instead of heading back to Tarbert, turn right and follow the road along Loch Fyne towards Skipness Castle. Don't be fooled by the castle, the real treasure is the seafood cabin outside! Forget about the history for a moment and indulge in the fresh mussels. We were served by a friendly lady who may have had some facial hair, but her mussels were amazing. They were cooked in a creamy white wine sauce and paired perfectly with a basket of bread. For the non-mussel lovers, there was a cheese bap available. The seafood selection was a bit pricey but included king and queen scallops, although they were overshadowed by the magnificent mussels. The best part was the view from our picnic-style table, overlooking the loch between Kintyre and Arran, with the sunset casting a beautiful glow over the fields. Pair it with a pricey but good bottle of cold Sancerre and you'll wonder why you don't live in the countryside. Highly recommended, don't wait, go there now. (Castle visit optional)"

Great location and excellent food. Nearby castle is interesting as are scenic views. Surprisingly crowded for Sunday lunch

During our recent visit to Kintyre, we dined at this restaurant twice. We tried the oysters, langoustines, king scallops, and gravadlax, and we highly recommend everything.

Amazing as always. Once you fined this place you will always remember it. The king scallops in particular were awesome. Great service. Quality food. Friendly staff. Few places on Kintyre as good.

Very special place, surrounded by incredible views of Skipness Beach, Castle and The Isle of Arran. Lovely service and superb food. We all loved it here. Don't miss the smokehouse shop behind the castle too. Ver carta

I question if this is local sea food , its hard to tell , most of the food seemed to be getting delivered by a well known catering company, I was very disappointed. The salads were one of the worst I have EVER had , I was so disappointed.

Great restaurant with excellent location and great food quality. Only criticism would be the staff could be a bit more engaging ! It wasn’t so busy at beginning of service to expect Smile or light conversation Would have been the icing on the cake

I visited this restaurant on a lovely sunny day and enjoyed dining outside at the picnic bench with fantastic views of Arran and Skipness Castle. The scallops in garlic butter were delicious and came with fresh salad and bread. Overall, this place is a hidden gem, but the only downside is that there isn't much menu choice for kids. Ver carta

We love this place and always make it a “must” stop on our annual five ferries tour. We have been coming for around 25 years. The seafood especially the oyster was lovely and as usual the views and atmosphere were tremendous. Only one small gripe the quantity on the seafood platter seems to have shrunk and some of it replaced with a not too wonderful salad. I will be back and hope the platter can be restored to past glory.

Just beyond the Lochranza to Claonaig ferry down a single track road but well worth the journey. Tables outside with Skipness Castle and a view of Arran. There is some covered seating inside but as the weather was nice we opted for outside. I had the seafood platter which was delicious. Poached, cold and hot smoked salmon, gravalax ,2oysters,2 langoustine and a bowl of mussels. The mussels were hot in a delicious sauce. Everything was perfect with a lovely selection of dressings especially the mustard dressing put on the gravalax). The bread was fresh and soaked up the juices. A lovely rustic way to have fresh seafood and not outlandishly priced for what we had.

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
