"Squirrels Pantry is a nice little cafe about 200 yards from the A66 with free parking and adjacent to a garden centre. Having an atrium roof and being situated in a wood adds to the appeal. I enjoyed my visit to Squirrels Pantry, the waitress was very friendly and the price of the meals were highly competitive, with many under 10. I had an omelette, chips and salad, which came to 8.95, and a generous sized capuccino to wash it down. My meal was good value and enjoyable and it seems the staff know many of the customers by name, which suggests a loyal clientele. I would recommend Squirrels Pantry to anyone visiting Cockermouth as it is cheaper than many of the town centre eateries. Note- the cafe only takes cash payments."

My wife and I called whilst passing through staying in Keswick for coffee and cake , it was one of the best scones we’ve eaten and it’s a hidden gem aside a garden centre , thank you

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic! The ambiance is lovely and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They were very understanding of our hangovers and even helped cure them with a delicious full English breakfast.

First visit but it won’t be my last. Lovely little cafe with a great menu and beautiful setting. Staff were very attentive and friendly. I had the full English breakfast and wasn’t disappointed, one of the best I’ve had, good quality ingredients, tasty and served quickly and hot.

The staff at this restaurant were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and warm, making our experience truly enjoyable with their humor and banter with customers. The food was delicious, with generous portion sizes and reasonable prices. Service was quick and efficient, and we were pleased to have discovered this gem before leaving Cockermouth. We even took some scones to enjoy at home. Ver carta

I visited this restaurant today for breakfast, and it was wonderful! The two ladies working there were incredibly kind. We had a lovely conversation about how I used to come here as a child with my grandmother, who has sadly passed away. One of the ladies also shared a touching story about her late mother. It was such a heartwarming experience. I can't wait to go back and would highly recommend this place to others.

My first visit, unfortunately I was served by a lady who was grumpy, unwelcoming, and simply not friendly, first impressions etc. No idea how to make a flat white, had the appearance of a latte, tasted average. The cake was nice, generous portion. As I was about to leave I went to pay, cash only, I was told, luckily I did have some cash with me which is unusual for me, not their fault the machine wasn't working, but why not mention to customers as they walk in that it's cash only to avoid potential problems.

"I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money."
