"The Fox Inn has returned to its former glory, and it's wonderful to see it so lively again. The food is excellent, the beer is great, and the wine selection is fantastic, all contributing to a brilliant atmosphere that I hope lasts for a long time. Contrary to what Google claims, the restaurant is definitely open and well worth a visit. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"I stumbled upon this restaurant and what a gem it turned out to be! We were looking for a nice spot for lunch and hit the jackpot here. Although the selection was a bit boring, the food we ordered was excellent. The ploughman's lunch was beautifully plated and the cheesecake was absolutely delicious. It was a pleasant change to enjoy the sunny weather while sitting in their charming beer garden. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area."

"We have had many memorable lunches and suppers at Summer Lodge since moving from London to Dorset, it was always the go to place for a celebration. Honeymoon, Birthdays and anniversary’s. The staff were always helpful, friendly and accommodating. The fabulous wine waiter would recommend the best that he could offer and the food was always exquisite and culinary outstanding. Today however was quite a disappointment. Standards have fallen drastically, gone is the attention to detail, and the staff really have not a clue how to serve their customers that are forking out a tremendous amount of money to eat in this establishment. Service was slow and when it came…we were met with a very impatient and arrogant man (I believe his name was Phil) I don’t know where he gained his grades at charm school?? The service was not at all what we have previously experienced. We ordered starters…no napkins, (don’t forget this is supposed to be a 5 hotel) they arrived and to be honest the goats cheese mousse was pitiful, in total it was half a dessert spoon of mousse and loads of garnish, the mackerel was a slither with a scrape of garlic purée….it was ok but, nothing to write home about. Then the mains arrived……beef cheek and mash that was totally crucified. The duck….again was just duck flavoured pulp…the only saving grace was the dessert, lemon posset, this was really good. The service was substandard and not attentive at all, attention to detail is no longer there. I feel sad about this as SL was always our destination place to go for that ‘Special occasion’ It’s hellish expensive and you should expect more. Standards are very very low and the staff no longer come from Europe….enough said about that. All in all we won’t be returning to what was once a very special place for us."

"I arrived in the evening it was already dark. Pulled into the completely dark, empty carpark and looked at the huge dark building in front of me. The central area had lights on but both ‘wings’ of the hotel were in darkness’. As I crossed the carpark and got closer I could see into some of the public areas which were obviously closed. I noticed the windows were dirty and weeds growing up between the pavers. After a long day travelling I was disappointed to find that the hotel must be closed! I pushed the door and it opened, I went inside and there was no one. Not on reception, in the bar, no one anywhere. Next to the lift I found an envelope with my name on it. They room key inside and phone number of some local pubs if I wanted to eat. I had to get back in my car and go out again to find something to eat. In the morning i realised they didn’t serve breakfast and I had to go buy it in a cafe across the carpark. The room itself was ok, a bit grubby in a few places and the bathroom was really hot while the room was cold as the air con was on all day. After breakfast I left my key back on the table and left. I can’t say for sure if i was the only guest but being in a huge building with the front door unlocked, on my own, with no staff was a little unnerving. I won’t be back."

"Whilst everybody seems to rave about Mark Hix and his London priced mediocre food and badly kept beer, they have lost sight of the fact that in his short tenure, he has destroyed one of the best village pubs in Dorset. To those who say that it's the best meal they ever had, I would say Living on a diet of junk food and takeaways doesn't necessarily make you a good judge of culinary standards. Shame on you Mark Hix."
