"Like I said before ,ive been going on n off to ballymac for over 28yrs ive always praised it but on easter tuesday I was out driving with my husband n sister,it was around 2.30 we were feeling pekish so decided to go to the ballymac for a bite to eat .well the first time in a these years I have a nagitive feed back ,I asked could we have the rump steak half chip half salad as this is my favourite ,my husband was having a serlion steak my sister wanted something light so decided on chicken cugons, with salad n garlic mayo.the girl went to ask chef about the rump steak n he definately was,nt for doing it ,no matter what (first time this happened) but told young girl not to worry id just have the same as what my sister took I really dont know if they have changed their chef or not but defo did not enjoy .husbands steak very fatty, n for our chicken I could,nt work out if it was over cooked or reheated.as for the salad my god a few lettice leaves no nothing else not a tomatoe ,onion (nothing else) .I was that tired from travelling I could,nt be bothered to complain ,I was ready for home, saw carin but he was busy ,behind bar ,I knew he would of sorted this but needed home at this stage .I definately would,nt be rushing back again because it seemed like the chef could,nt be bothered, and I can understand what some other customers were talking about when they mentioned the staff ,they are all very friendly but to many standing over the top of you n seem to ask is everything alright when you,ve just put food in your mouth, first time I never even left a tip, I think the portion size was as though they,d run outa salad ,I went home n ordered a chinese, dissapointed very much but my other review id wrote about ballymac was praising it so much I think its fair that I right this review thats left me very annoyed."

Really enjoyed the food. Nice atmosphere. Nice looking restaurant. Staff are professional, give you space to enjoy your company. Reasonably priced. Bit dear if you add wine but worth it.

It's not the First place that comes to mind for a quick dinner but it should be. Haven't been in a long time and kind of forgot how good it is. The food, all different menu is just old proper food well cooked. Lovely staff.

Hadn't been for food here in years and I must say that I will not leave it as long for my next visit. 7 of us were delighted at what we hadserved up to us and the staff were more than attentive and very poilte and service was exceptional. The food itself was plentiful and was piping hot.

We had our wedding here on the 3rd June 2016 and my wife and I could not fault one thing about the hotel, the staff, and the food. The staff were very helpful, Jim in particular was a great toast master and made us feel so relaxed through the day/evening and the next morning. The bar staff were pleasant and the food was amazing, large portions to suit all our guests needs. The hotel was clean and well looked after. All our guests rooms were very clean, spacious and comfortable. We both would highly recommend this hotel for a wedding. WELL DONE OWNERS AND STAFF OF THE BALLYMAC HOTEL.

i have been at ballymac twice the first time I ordered scampi which was deep fried in batter and swimming with grease my next visit was about a month ago my daughter and 3 year old granddaughter went for lunch as I thought it couldn't possibly be worse than my first visit i ordered the chicken curry and rice when it was served the rice looked and tasted like uncle bens and the curry sauce tasted like packet sauce my daughters 4 chicken chill strips were placed on a bowl of stacked up salad so as to appear more and my granddaughters cheap looking burger was slapped on a dry roll wit anaemic oven baked french fries served along side to add insult to injury our main meals cost almost 13 pounds...

"Without a doubt the worst experience we have ever had. Pre booked a table for 5 for dinner on Saturday evening and when we arrived they didn't seem that busy. We were shown to our table relatively quick. We then had to sit there for around 20 minutes until someone came to take our food order. I was a bit surprised that there was only 2 steaks on the menu unless you gave 24hr notice. We then had to ask could we order a drink. It wasn't a difficult order 1 beer and 4 Fanta. We waited a further 15 for the drinks to come which were wrong also the glasses were disgusting with lipstick and previous drink residue on them.we eventually got all that sorted and the food came. I had ordered a mixed grill which was £28 I asked for my steak to be cooked medium. The plates were literally just in front of us 2 minutes when a waitress came and asked was everything OK. As I began to work my way through the food I eventually got to the 8oz steak which was very well done and extremely hard to chew so it was left. When everyone had finished they came to clear the plates and I told the waitress that I had asked for medium and not well done and to my surprise she immediately got on the defensive asking did someone come and see if everything was OK I told her yes but it was just after the food was brought. 2 minutes later the owner of the place came out of the kitchen with my steak on a small plate and proceeded to tell me I was wrong and that that's the way a medium steak should look but there was not even a slight tinge of pink. He then started to tell me that I didn't know how steak was cooked. I then mentioned the glasses and he said didn't they get replaced so what's the problem. At this point t my kids were getting pretty upset so I just asked for the bill so we could leave. To be honest it was very intimidating to have a well over 6ft man stand over you arguing over a piece of steak. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone."

"Where to begin? Our mother decided to “treat” myself and my sister to lunch. However, soon our joy turned into laughter, and then to severe disappointment. My sister and I shared a “panini” of bacon, Brie and cranberry sauce. Firstly, the “panini” was a baguette...which had been seared then microwaved. The bacon was the best bit, yet had clearly reheated in a microwave. The Brie, was next to non-existent. The cranberry sauce, oh my goodness it was atrocious. Our “panini” was not a generous size for a grand price of half of which was filled with psychedelic blood-like sugary cranberry sauce (with giant chunks of cranberry). First when my sister took a bite I thought she was over exaggerating, for I had not tasted the cranberry sauce yet, it was upon my second bite the true horror of the “panini” had come to fruition. Picture this, expecting to have a bite of creamy Brie, crispy bacon, and tart cranberry sauce, and then instead being met with a taste that resembled sweetened jelly powder. I tried to convince myself that my tastebuds were deceiving me I fought through the overwhelming taste of sweeties, to attempt to taste the Brie, which in fact I couldn’t find. The bacon flavour barely made it through and the bread was more a sponge for soaking up the cranberry sauce. As you can see from the photo provided, in order to make some attempt at finishing the “panini”, my sister and I had to dissect it and surgically remove what looked like blood clots cranberries. To add to this horror, there was but a sad pile of coleslaw, apparently a pile of crinkle-cut crisps it wasn’t even to my surprise at this point that there was one solitary crinkle-cut crisp among a variety of other flavoured basic crisps. To top this all off, our mother bravely tried the pink foam substance (we still aren’t sure what it was) and she had to immediately reach for her glass of water to wash away the taste. This experience produced within us both feelings of guilt and shame. Guilt, because our mother (who rarely eats out) was attempting to “treat” us to brunch. She felt guilty at inflicting such a disastrous “panini” on us as a “treat”. Shame, because we are the type of family who NEVER leave food on our plates, yet we were so embarrassed about how it looked like we barely ate anything at all, so we quickly made an exit. In conclusion, the hot food needs serious reform. On a positive note, the staff seemed friendly."
