"Having waited 40 minutes after ordering we had to ask the waiting staff if our food was coming. We were then told the kitchen had ‘lost our order’ but it would be ‘out quickly’. The waiter then told us twice after about ten minutes each time that it would be ‘just a couple more minutes’. Don’t lie just tell us how long it will really be! After an hour and twenty minutes from arriving we still had no food, no offer of a starter or bread roll while we waited, so we walked out. The food other people around us got while we had waited hopefully looked nice enough. Shame the staff couldn’t be bothered to give us some."

"This had been a review that I have been wanting to write for a while, but never got around to it, but after yesterday’s Sunday lunch I couldn’t forget anymore!! We have been attending the black lion since July when we moved to the village and found out that the local pub had been taken over by new landlords, and what a cracking job they have done so far! I’m a professional chef and been working in top restaurants and gastro pubs for the last 22 years and understand all the aspects of hospitality…and I have to say they made one of the best roast dinners I’ve had in a very long time! All the meats were cooked to perfection, alongside amazing array of veggies and fluffy crispy potatoes! Yorkshire puddings bigger than your fist, perfectly seasoned throughout and a tasty gravy to bring it all together! The landlords should be proud of what themselves and their team for what they have produced. This wasn’t a one time affair either….we have visited 3 times in the last couple months and has equally been as good each time and think we are becoming hooked I can’t speak for the rest of the menu as I haven’t seen it or tasted it, but if it’s as good as the roast, then you will be in for a treat! Brad and Natasha and the team are always very inviting and the atmosphere feels very relaxed, especially when the fires are roaring away! We will definitely be recommending this pub in the future to all our friends and local colleagues, and look forward to seeing this public house grow in the future as it deserves to."

"visited along my family and we were completely satisfied with how great a experience we all had. eating for a start was exceptional, the scallops and muddle went a tasty bite! and the Sharing plate was more than enough between two people. the staff was so friendly and helpful, this is also the pub dog that is beautiful. the atmosphere and the decor was charming and casual, the location was really good. close to many sights like a few weinberge we had visited before."

"This delightful restaurant was once excellent, but it seems to have changed ownership. We arrived at 1.30pm and waited for service in the bar/restaurant, but no one came. My husband had to search for someone to take our order. After finally being served drinks and handed menus, we waited even longer for our orders to be taken. It took 50 minutes for our food to arrive. My lasagne was disappointing with plain lumps of mince and no seasoning or bechamel sauce, topped with overcooked and stringy cheese. The garlic bread was also lacking in garlic flavor. My husband's steak pie looked fine, but the meat was bland and unseasoned. We decided to leave the food and quickly pay, but had trouble finding someone to take our payment. We went to the main bar but still couldn't locate anyone. After some time, a frustrated cook appeared and we were able to pay and leave. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and we will not be returning."
