"Whilst I leave it to the culinary and social hub that is Upper Street to take care of after-work dinner and drinks, it seems that nearby Holloway Road has its own charm owing to the many renovated pubs that are consistently popping up. Since I live just off Holloway Road myself, I was eager to try out the newly decorated and now extremely inviting looking Horatia for some pub grub, and a welcome change of location from my usual trips to Upper Street. And it certainly didn’t disappoint. The pub’s interior has a rustic, almost gothic feel to it, all wooden furniture and low lighting which creates a cosy feel that is perfect for the winter nights. Black boards behind the bar list the pub’s extensive drink selection, covering pretty much everyone’s beverage tastes by including cocktails alongside well selected draft lagers. Having just ordered myself a pint of Peroni, I was most tempted to pair it with one of the gourmet burgers which themselves occupied a whole section of the menu, detailed alongside other indulgent classics such as sausage casserole and steak and Guinness pie. Whilst the burger was not cheap, coming in at £12.95, the sheer quantity of beef that I received was well worth the price! It was also beautifully cooked and surrounded by a generous serving of emmental cheese. I left the Horatia feeling full and satisfied, and more to the point, with only a two minute walk back to my house. Since then the pub has become somewhat of a local for me and my friends, and I will no longer be overlooking my native Holloway Road’s ability to deliver the same quality high quality experience as Upper Street!"
