"We visited Mama Fay's on our first night away in Aberystwyth over the Platinum Jubilee holiday.The shop is bright, colourful and full of life with great music being played. We were greeted by two lovely waitresses who showed us to our table. The entire process was table service, so we could be completely laidback.The service was speedy and the food was absolutely amazing. I would recommend the Halloumi Sticks, Jerk Sharer Platter Sweet Potato Tart.All of this, plus drinks came to about £26.50 each. For a three course meal and a drink, I'd say that is great value for money! If we ever find ourselves in Aber again, we will be popping in to Mama Fay's!"

"This place has the best coffee in Aber and some of the best food. Their menu changes periodically, so they don't always have the same salads and mains. Many bakery/takeaway items seem to always be available, like croissants and baklava. I'd definitely recommend the cumin potatoes, though in my opinion they do need a bit of salt. The one area they could use some improvement is their service. It's frequently busy, and service is often a bit slow. There isn't typically a host on duty, and it can be confusing as to how seating and ordering works. If you want to pick up grocery items, bakery items, or takeaway, you can queue next to the refrigerators and order/pay at the counter. You can also order/pay at the register at the other end of the counter. To be seated, we've typically just had to approach someone to let them know we've arrived and where we're sitting, assuming a clean table is available. There are steps to enter the building, so it is not accessible to those with wheelchairs."

"We arrived about 2.30pm and the place was pretty packed out which I like to see… to me it means they must be doing something right for the place to be busy. The lad (with the dark hair) who greeted us was so friendly and said we could wait for a table and it would be a bout 10 mins, we were more than happy to do this, they kept us informed the whole time about the table being vacated, then they needed to clean it etc. we were seated and ordered quite quick as we had already chosen… we all had all day breakfasts… I can’t stand baked beans and said none for me and I was actually offered an alternative to replace the beans (which is a rarity) I chose mushrooms for my replacement. Our food and drinks came out in good time and was really nice we all enjoyed it. Great value too. The two lads that we dealt with were so accommodating and friendly and the one with the moustache was joking about with us which we liked! We would 110% come here again!"

"Visited after seeing previous reviews and wasn't disappointed. My partner and I had the vegan seitan roast and my meat eating mum had the nut roast and said it was delicious. The oat milk chai latte was one of the nicest I've tasted. Great choice of food, lovely, friendly staff and a chilled out atmosphere. As a vegan it was lovely to have so much choice and would definitely recommend a visit. We wished we had room for dessert as the sweet stuff looked amazing too. Dietary restrictions: Great choice for vegans and meat eaters won't be disappointed"

"This was an unplanned visit firstly. Arriving in Aberystwyth rather early for our dinner booking, and it being freezing cold, we chose the closest pub to our parking to warm up. Yr Hen Lew Du was the closest pub. Unfortunately, it was not the warmest! We entered the pub and it was rather empty- 6pm on a Friday, I can only assume that the pub is frequented primarily by students, who were on a half term break. It gave me a very 'student ' vibe. We were, however, greeted politely by the staff. My husband went and got me a drink whilst I visited one of the smallest toilet cubicles known to man. I am 5ft 2 and very minimally overweight (probably less than UK average still) and I struggled to get in and close the door. The drinks were nice and cold, which ordinarily would be a plus, but it was so cold in the bar I wish I had ordered a coffee. I would assume when it is busy it is much warmer. The bar caters for both Welsh and English speakers on it 's menu which is lovely. The staff were very polite and friendly. I 'm just not sure it is a place for a 40 year old married couple. It wasn 't unclean either. Upon leaving the bar, I can be certain the temperature inside was the same as outside. I hope the staff have a little heater behind the bar!"
