"We are so lucky to have such a fantastic pub/restaurant on our doorstep!! We are blessed locally to have a lot of pubs in the local area, but none come close to the food, atmosphere and friendly staff at The Bull. Dog friendly bar area and upper restaurant seating area, and dog free restaurant over looking the rolling fields towards the river stour (which is amazing in the summer). In the summer time you get the opportunity to sit on their large patio or garden with some of the best views from a pub garden in Suffolk. There is a 5-a-side goal for kids to play football with, as well as a ground level trampoline. They also have a large permanent marque that you can hire out for weddings, birthdays or just family events, which comes with private garden area for guests."

We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at this restaurant. The prawn cocktail starter was superb, and the roast beef and roast pork mains were delicious. They were served with a generous portion of fresh vegetables, roast potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding. For dessert, we sampled the Bakewell tart, Jam sponge, and sticky toffee pudding, all of which were excellent. The friendly staff provided great service. Thank you for a wonderful meal! Ver carta

First time visit, went with a group of friends, very impressed from the start even tho the server was busy she acknowledged our presence and was soon back to seat us. Whilst waiting to place orders the chef popped out to chat and offer suggestions. Went with the Garlic Mushrooms and Sirloin Steak, Portions were Very generous and the steak was cooked to perfection. Not the cheapest meal but for what we had it was more than worth the cost. Highly recommended

I just got back from a fantastic Sunday roast at The Bull. I've been here for drinks before, but this was my first time dining. The service was excellent with friendly staff and generous portion sizes. The roast lamb was delicious and served piping hot, with fresh vegetables that tasted like a homemade family meal. The atmosphere was lively and bustling, but the service was still prompt. I highly recommend The Bull, but suggest booking ahead on Sundays as it's a popular spot! Great job, Team!

If I could chose 10 stars I would! Everything was sensational from the food to the wine, the ambiance, and the service. Our waitress Sacha was amazing. Attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, and not overbearing. We came for steak night and boy did it impress. I used to live in Manningtree and came more frequently, but since moving back to Ipswich haven’t been for a couple of years. It was worth the trip! Too many places offer quantity without quality, but this was both. I’ll be back soon, but with looser trousers!! It was lovely to get to chat with Paul and Sacha after our meal. Paul really is the host with the most. Try for yourselves you’ll be back time and again!! Ver carta

So lucky to have this pub local to me! Only been in a handful of times (so far) but everytime it has been fantastic Food is beyond scrummy, huge portions, well presented and home cooked vibes. Staff are friendly, attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The wine selection is great! The atmosphere of the pub is cosy and welcoming. It has wonderful additions from books to read, to quiz cards on the tables as ice breakers. Its spacious and dog friendly too, with amazing views across the River Stour. This is an establishment whose owners have thought of everything you can think of to make people feel welcome and it works! A properly run, community spirited pub a real rare find! Love it!

My wife and I visited this pub for the first time and had lunch there today (22nd Feb). It was superb! The pub is beautifully decorated and furnished, with ample space between tables. The staff were all very polite, friendly, and efficient. The food took a little while to come out, but this was understandable as they clearly cook everything fresh when it's busy. The menu had a great variety of options. I chose the gammon with two eggs, pineapple, chips, and peas, and was impressed by the large portion of high-quality meat. My wife enjoyed the skate wing with new potatoes and fresh vegetables, but the portion size was so generous that she couldn't finish it! We will definitely be returning so...

"I hope we were just unlucky, and I feel sad writing this, but it wasn't the best experience this weekend. We stayed overnight and had the tasting menu. The Creppy family are departed a while now, and the staff such as Henri that stayed on are long gone, they set unbelievably high standards which were always going to be hard to meet. We loved the room we stayed in, but the rest of the experience was a bit awkward. I feel sorry for them as it was super hot and it must be difficult to get staff at the moment, but when you have paid £500 for one night and food inc wine then things can be a bit disappointing. From the start we could tell that they were under the cosh, the manager was sick, and we were told repeatedly how busy they were tonight. We asked to eat 30 mins later than booked which they said would help. We ordered a half bottle of champagne but had to wait about 15 minutes as the fridge was broken at it would not be cold. It arrived and wasn't cold enough really, then after 10 minutes in the ice bucket it was. Simultaneously other guests were told the coffee machine was also broken. A bit of a shame as we were celebrating a birthday and it sort of spoiled the moment waiting for a drink. Then ordered a 2014 Pomerol which to be honest I found really rather average, but that is the luck of the draw. The food was quite good, but only one course impressed us, the trout was good. The staff seem very downbeat to the point of it being awkward, one told us and another table to make as much mess as we like as it was her last shift. Others seemed very awkward and lacking confidence/a smile. Again, hard to get quality staff at the moment, but there seemed to be a lack of pride/confidence in what is being delivered. I also asked for cheese to finish off, in the past they had a glorious cheese cart with a huge selection of great cheeses. I accept maybe it was too hot for this, but I was simply given a plate of three cheeses, no one asked me if I would like to choose anything or for example do I like blue cheese. Then when it was delivered my wife tried one of them, liked it so asked what it was, and they didn't know what the cheese was which is probably not what they aspire to. makes me sad as the cheese at the Great House is stuff of legend. More minor stuff: Breakfast wise the coffee in the percolator was way too strong even for someone who likes strong coffee, a tiny shot of milk was not enough so we asked for more, would have been nice to be offered hot milk to make Cafe Au Lait etc. Also another minor point, the soap and shower gels were quite horrible, they stick to you and don't wash off, not something I'm usually bothered about, but the half empty containers looked like they had be refilled with something not very nice, or it was just never very good. When we checked out I think the manager may have been back, he did not ask us once how our stay had been so we had no real chance to say anything. We tried to be understanding and of course being British nothing was really a problem for us, but when you've spent £500 for a birthday it was all a bit disappointing and not nearly up to par. I sympathise that it might have been a difficult night, but to be honest it would have come off better if I hadn't been reminded every few minutes that they were so busy and everything going wrong. I'm not even sure that they were that busy, the terrace was out of bounds and the restaurant was 3/4 full. Matters were drawn in to focus the next day when we went to the Weavers Spa, and also for lunch at the Crown in Stoke by Nayland, staff were cheerful, helpful and great at both of these local places. Sorry for writing this negative review which I feel sad to have written about a place we used to love. Rooms: 4 Service: 2 Location: 4"
