"I dined in the restaurant in December 2022 with some friends. I asked the waiter what I could order because I have a dairy allergy, he said I could order a pizza with vegan (dairy free) cheese on it, so this is what I ordered. The table then ordered some starters to share, so I asked if I could eat any of them that came out. The owner then said I could eat the garlic bread pizza, as it was olive oil spread that was used to make this. When I asked to see the packaging I saw this contained buttermilk, which I obviously could not have! So untrusting of what I could eat I decided not to eat any of the starters and wait for my dairy free pizza that I was assured would be safe for me to eat. When the main course arrived the waiter came out with one pizza first and said it was the dairy free one, which I took. Then once everyone had their meals I asked the waiter again, if this is the dairy free pizza to which he said yes. Taking the word of the staff I started to eat a small bit of the pizza, and quickly felt my lips hurting, so then checked again and the owner came out and said no it was the wrong pizza I had been given. Which after checking 5 times if this was going to be safe for me to eat, it was not! I then had to take some medication and leave the restaurant and had a bad allergic reaction when I got home. I can't get over how badly the restaurant dealt with my allergy and there is obviously no protocol in place to deal with someone with an allergy and staff not properly trained on this either. It's bad enough I had to miss out on my evening and next day too, with feeling unwell, but for someone else with an anaphylactic reaction this may have been their life. Allergies are very, very serious and this should be dealt with appropriately in this restaurant. They did not check on me after I left the restaurant to see if I was ok directly. When I contacted the restaurant afterwards they apologised and said I could go in for a free meal, which I have declined as I don't feel safe to do so. I sincerely hope they take this seriously in the future and revisit their protocols. Please be aware of this if dining here."

"We had a wonderful experience at this charming inn while visiting the standing stones, which were unfortunately closed so we couldn’t stop for a bite to eat. The service was attentive, and all the staff were pleasant and cheerful. When our food arrived, it was hot and plentiful. I ordered the mixed grill, which was a generous and delicious portion, and the small tomato soup was exceptionally flavorful – better than what I've had at some 5-star hotels! The restaurant and restrooms were impeccably clean, and I enjoyed a strong cup of coffee to finish off the meal. We would definitely return if we visit the standing stones again when they reopen or if we are in the area. Thank you for the hospitality!"

"A lovely meal was had at the Shepards rest in Westhill. Me and a few friends live in the local area and this is definitely the best restaurant in the area. Our server Lauren was very helpful and an asset to the restaurant with her wonderful customer service. Me and my friends all had burgers and all of our specific’s were met with ease and the food was served in time. We all enjoyed our beers and gins that we ordered. Reasonably priced and the food quality was perfect if not better than expected for a local pub and grill. Been here many times before and have had a great experience each time. I tend to recommend this place to anyone that I meet that is visiting Westhill and there surrounding area. Keep up the good work."

"We had a table of 8 booked in for Saturday night, the first 2 from our group arrived 10 mins early but were ignored by 4 members of staff before finally being seated. Drinks were ordered but never arrived. The rest of the group arrived and we were left for a good 20 mins before drinks were offered. We did get an apology during the meal due to several lengthy delays in between ordering food and drinks and us actually getting them, apparently there was a lot going on at once?! Our server tried her best to make up for the issues by being super attentive but we were past the point of caring by then and just wanted to leave. Nothing wrong with the food, but everything else seemed chaotic despite what seemed like a surplus of staff floating around."

"Well presented and prepared traditional Scottish dishes. Fish was very fresh and delicious and chips were crisp. A decent selection of beers, wines and spirits on offer and prices were very reasonable. Servers were friendly and efficient, dining areas are warm, nicely decorated and tables are evenly spaced for comfort and some privacy. My one suggestion would be to have some larger serving dishes for sauces like tomato and tartare but it probably cuts back on waste to do it this way."
