"My wife and I had visited Cork previously, but only ever for a few drinks. Last evening we decided to have a bite to eat and ordered some deep fried calamari and croquettes from the tapas menu. The drinks beforehand were fine, in fact the sangria made by the young bartender was excellent. The food however, was certainly not ! The deep fried platter looked and tasted as if they 'd bought it in from Iceland : overcooked, rock hard, oily and pretty tasteless. When the young lady came to collect our barely touched plate, she was politely told how awful it was and that I had no desire to pay for it just the drinks. Some minutes later, a man who I assume was the manger/owner, came to the table and commented on our not liking the food. When told it was overcooked and pretty awful it was greeted with a simple 'OK, so you don 't have to pay for the food ' whereupon he turned his back on us and walked away. What an ignorant individual ! I see the many negative comments regarding rude staff I 'm not surprised if he is their mentor. Half an apology for the terrible food served would have maybe had me return there one day for drinks. Not now and I shall do my best to deter would be diners from setting foot inside the place !"

Ormskirk's best breakfast spot, hands down. The staff are friendly and attentive. In the evening, it transforms into a lively and welcoming bar.

My husband and I had tapas for lunch and they were delicious. The staff was very friendly and there was plenty of space between tables. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Ver carta

I visited The Cork today for the third time and had a full English breakfast. The food was excellent, the service was good, and it was great value for money. I will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend it.

Superb restaurant and bar with a friendly atmosphere, great beers, wine and cocktails and excellent food and tapas available. Spotlessly clean, well laid out, great location with seating outside as well. Small TV showing football but it certainly doesn't interfere with The Cork's ambience.

I had a spontaneous lunch at this restaurant. The welcome was friendly and the staff were helpful. I decided to try the tapas menu and ordered three dishes, but it was too much for me, so I ended up just getting the calamari. My friends ordered the speck, chicken, and brie panini with salad, which looked amazing and they said it tasted delicious. I would definitely recommend them. I will be back for sure! x

We had an enjoyable lunch at The Cork today. Pizzas were good quality and the platters are nice though the indication that they serve 2 must be as a snack as they’re definitely not big enough for a meal for two. Having said that the food prices are very keen and the platters therefore remain good value. Service was very pleasant but a bit chaotic. They took a long time to take our order and to clear the table after we’d eaten. When they eventually did clear the table they left some of the plates behind until our deserts arrived. Desert was lovely especially the almond tart. I would give it another go. Just tighten up the service guys.

"ok… I have deliberated whether to write this as don’t like to be negative but I think this place can take it so here goes… My husband booked a meal as a Christmas pressie this as I have always wanted to go to a michelin star restaurant and this is quite local to us. We arrived at The Barn which is quite basic in appearance as the downstairs looks like several saunas due to the amount of wood on show. Upstairs was nice and attractive. The staff are efficient but the whole set up is bit ‘cold’ and unfriendly. The staff were not particularly engaged; maybe this is how they were trained to be? The food consisted of amuse bouche which tbh didn’t really taste of much and this was a theme for the whole menu unfortunately. The homemade bread was delicious but the other offerings were tasteless and needed seasoning. -trout mousse in a lemon broth, including pips, was tasteless and the mussel mousse on pikelet didn’t taste of mussels. anyhow on to the main event-we ordered partridge -chewy and tasteless, the cured sea bream not seasoned sufficiently. The meals looked delicious-style over taste? Then the mains-my deer was tender and delicious but the sauces didn’t taste of much-I had to check the menu to see what they were meant to be. My husband ordered the steak-now at £62 this should have been SOME steak- what a shame it wasn’t -it was just a sirloin, bit chewy, not that great. Deffo not worth £62 of taste! It wasn’t caramelised on the outside and abit sinewy. The bone marrow bearnaise sauce was tasty though. Now I like cooking, I like food , I cook fresh meals every night but I’m not a chef. My first experience of food at this level… I will stick to local restaurants WITHOUT michelin stars at a fraction of the price -tbh I prefer my own home cooked meals! Is this a case of the emperors new clothes? Do people just think it’s good because they are told by someone else it’s fantastic? I’m disappointed in the experience at The Barn. Bit of a wash out and I will be asking for a meal at Bistro Verite in Birkdale next Christmas probs at a fraction of the price!"
