"We thought you might like to know that The Fox and Hounds was awarded 5 stars on gastrohub. Here is our review from the site. Another day, another new pub, at least for me, Dad has been here before at some point in the past. This beautiful pub in the small village of Funtington, just wants you to come inside. Especially on a dreary Winter's day, when the drizzle is falling on you from a grey and solemn sky, it beckons you through its doors, in to the warmth, where you can forget about the grip of Winter and enjoy a few drinks and some hot food. The pub is much larger than it first appears, with an additional restaurant area behind the bar. Despite its size, the pub was warm, a fundamental area in pub hospitality. We examined the menu, including the specials board, and were mightily impressed. This was certainly one of the better menu's we have come across, showing a distinct flare and imagination. I had half expected the prices to reflect the ingredients and dishes on offer, perhaps rocketing in to the unacceptable bracket, but we were pleasantly surprised. Main meals averaged at £12 £14, what we would consider about right for a good pub serving high quality food. I chose piri piri chicken with spiced sweet potato and spinach, Dad picked from the specials board, putting his faith in the pulled steak inside a bubble and squeak cake. We soaked up the warm and friendly atmosphere as we waited for the food, noting the Goldilocks levels of both temperature and appropriate music. Before long our meals arrived, and it was immediately obvious that the chef has a wonderful eye for presentation. Both our plates looked stunning, so we quickly tucked in to see if it tasted as good as it looked. It did. The chicken was juicy, the sweet potato lightly spiced and tasty, and the spinach was buttery and luxuriant. Dad's bubble and squeak cake was equally perfect, leaving him unable to make any criticism. If we were to find a single fault, and I realise this is objective, we did find the portions a little small. Being the pub geeks that we are, we discussed this at some length. We decided that as a publican, there is a fine line between leaving your customers feeling short changed, and leaving them with room for a desert, thus collecting a few more penny's. We decided that they fell down just on the right side of that line, and to prove our point, we then ordered a desert. I had white chocolate and orange bread and butter pudding, Dad had an individual lemon meringue pie with blueberry compote. These were both also delicious. This is without doubt a very fine pub indeed. They have well and truly ticked all the basic boxes. The staff are efficient and friendly, and they haven't succumb to the overpricing policy which is so prevalent in many gastro pubs. There's a fine chef in the kitchen, and most importantly of all, the food is excellent. We always ask ourselves after each pub visit if we would return with friends and family. The answer in this case is a resounding yes."

The food was delicious. I ordered the red mullet and my friend had the seafood platter, I believe. I forgot to use my £5 voucher that I received for being on the email list. And, of course, we had dessert.

Fácil de reservar, buen aparcamiento, cálida bienvenida y servido con prontitud. La comida estaba bien, no gourmet pero comida de pub de calidad. El servicio prestado fue de lo más atento, lo que hizo que la visita fuera agradable. Ver carta

Had another fantastic Sunday lunch at this pub today! I have dined here a few times now and I have nothing but good things to say. The atmosphere is friendly, the food is delicious, and the staff are helpful and polite. Plus, it's very reasonably priced.

Sunday dinner for the family was very good. we enjoyed the size of the main and desserts! mac and cheese, pork, bark and vegetables were well cooked. lachs was ok and the cripple with the pork would be better soaked at the meal and not in the gravure. come back! Ver carta

We had a fantastic experience at this charming pub. The staff were extremely courteous and accommodating, and the food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Steak and Ale Pie, while my wife opted for the half chicken. Both dishes were served in generous portions and were full of flavor.

I have found in recent years that the quality and service is excellent. the sunday roasts and super-pies are always of the same quality. on the side there is always extra gravity. the girls always offer a attentive service. the 2 smaller dining areas have a beautiful ambiente. the music is a bit off, sometimes as not underground, especially if you are close to the loudspeaker. they also serve a decent cup coffee. Thank you young.

"Very good service and definitely worth a visit. Celeriac We started with the celeriac labneh and dukkah which was very nice. Very earthy and deep powerful flavours in the dukkah complimenting the celeriac. The labneh was silky and fresh. Squid The broth from...the squid was very nice, lite and a full depth of flavour. Our next dishes… Pigeon Kiev the pigeon breast was cooked well, soft and flavoursome. There was a hint of black garlic coming through but not over powering. The crumb let it down as it was just over done and had a strong flavour of oil coming through which overpowered the dish. Scallops the scallops were scallops. However they were over done and the oil they were in was too much. We could not make out what the dish was as it lacked flavour and for us it just did not work. Fillet of beef beautifully cooked and a very good cut. Exactly how fillet should be. The croquette was powerful, the jus silky and powerful also. A good dish however we were both looking forward to the venison which was not on the restaurant menu but on the online menu. Dessert the apple and blackberry crumble was nice but really just a simple crumble (not tart). Sweet and silky fruits with a crumble topping sprinkled on top. The cheese board was as you would expect. The portions were about right if you were to have each course as the menu is designed to offer. For us the food just did not wow, and was rather average. At the prices charged (high end close to Michelin) I expected more. There was not a single dish that wowed us. We were seated in the gazebo area of the restaurant. It was hot and cold as they had a blast heater which was timed to occasionally blast heat into the room which made it rather hot and then the room quickly cooled down however this did not really bother us. Unfortunately the room we were sat in lacked ambiance and left us feeling a little uncomfortable at times with the two other tables in there. Our table was also rather small. The service was very good. Well done! Balanced and timings very good. We felt looked after. I would suggest you DO try this restaurant but for us, we now have and probably would not return based on the value for money and comparing to other restaurants with a similar price point and offering."
