we had lunch and enjoyed it. are in the bar/lounge area, instead the restaurant as the atmosphere was friendly and not too full.

Very friendly pub, accommodated a party of 6 at very short notice. Moved a couple of tables around and found us a time slot to suit. They honestly couldn’t have made us feel more welcome! To top it all, food was fabulous thanks everyone...in the team.

We ate here three times over the week that we stayed in Allendale. The Sunday dinner here was the best I've had in a pub in a very long time. Fish and chips were epic. We took the kids and the dogs but couldn't take...the dogs up in to the restaurant upstairs. Very very good Ver carta

we had a bachelor party yesterday for 16 ladies for lunch. we had pre-ordered our meals. eating was nice, catering for food allergies and nutritional requirements. vegan lasagne was excellent. jonny and his whole team were well organized and ensured that we had everything we needed!

Well what can I say? From the moment we arrived on Friday evening until we left early Sunday we had the most outstanding experience… Customer service 10/10 A , warm, welcoming nothing to much trouble. Room , wow just amazing no expense spared , really nicely...done, beautiful, quality, every attention to detail considered. 10/10 A Mattress amazing, slept like a baby

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch as a extended family of 16. We had booked and pre-ordered in advance. We arrived a little early and were invited to have a drink in the bar downstairs until our table was ready. The dining room upstairs, is...light and airy and overlooks the square. The food arrived quickly and was served by friendly attentive staff. The quality of everything was excellent and my slow cooked beef just melted in the mouth. I would definitely recommend. Ver carta

on a tour through the opposite of weardale over aston and back over alldale. planted a pub lunch somewhere and were quite disappointed to find many places closed during the week. Finally, gilden lion found on the square in alldale city. large bar area with. good selection of ales, lagers and lemons as well as gins etc. the menu selection ranged from sandwiches to bar snacks to full pub-grub menus. we have selected battered cod and chips. it was satisfactory, even if teig and chips were a little on the soggy side of the snore! the staff were friendly and polite and service prompt. the pub had a rather “musty” smell.

I'd visited last summer and enjoyed a pleasant chickpea burger and excellent chips sitting outside. Unfortunately the experience was not replicated when I visited on 17th March. I ordered steak and ale pie and hand cut chips. The pie was only half edible, with the...crust being rock hard and impossible to cut. The chips were almost very good, only needing a minute more in the fryer, but the veg was awful and looked and tasted like it had been scraped off last night's plate and revived with some hot water. I had to leave half the meal and it cost £11.95. I cannot understand why anyone would think it was acceptable to serve this meal to a paying customer.

The Golden Lion in Allendale is a fabulous hotel and pub. Situated in the centre of the village, there is ample free parking in the Market Place. We had booked a superior double room and on arrival we were advised that there was a problem...with the room, viz a broken window pane that had been boarded up. We were offered an alternative room or the one we had booked, but at a reduced rate. We elected to stay in the original room as it was very spacious and, as the boarded up window didn’t bother us at all, I advised that there was no need to discount the price although it’s very nice that the offer was made.
