"If you are anywhere near Pontefract and you fancy a nice coffee and something to eat then you won't go far wrong by visiting DJs Café at Maud's Yard, (off Market Place), Pontefract, WF8 1AQ Tel. 07947 395981. I was actually on a journey to Durham and decided to break the journey at Pontefract. Having never been there before I was delighted to find a warm welcome at DJs Café and delicious cheese and ham sourdough toasties. Hannah, who runs the business, is very professional and friendly. I could see there were several regulars who were enjoying their drinks and eats. I think the opening hours are Tuesdays 9am to 12.30pm. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 9am to 3pm. Saturday 8am to 3pm. Closed Mondays and Sundays. The toasties were the very best and kept us going for several hours. The bakewell cake I took away was absolutely delicious and so fresh that even though I didn't eat it until 32 hours later it was still very fresh. Pontefract is definitely worth a visit if you are nearby. There is a great indoor market with a good variety of wares on sale. Parking is available at Morrison's supermarket, Stuart Road, WF8 1BT and it is only a short walk to the market place and Maud's Yard where you will find DJs Café. Thank you to the bakers and Hannah. To have a nice breakfast including coffee for two at under £17.00 is very good value and so fresh Thank you."

"We visited with our friends for a meal and drinks after recommendations and cant believe the disappointment. The pub was virtually empty save for a group of workers having a drink. Not the image we expected. We were shown to a table next to them. The room was really cold, really cold, and too brightly lit, which doesnt help , the cobwebs on the upper walls are hardly hidden then. We ordered, the staff were friendly enough. The meals were average at higher prices, and not as described on their own website, the prices being much more inflated. It wouldn't be that bad if the meals were good, I believe out of the four meals, only mine was what I would describe as good, that was the Cajun Chicken. The Gammon meals were breakfast gammon and too thin. The sandwich was average. It is so upsetting and disappointing when someone recommends a venue and it just fails to live up to your expectations, we won't return , another crossed off our list."

"We booked this restaurant for my husband's birthday. Starting positive the welcome and staff were lovely and the place is clean and nicely decorated. The problem is we were both cold even though it had been open 2 hours. The food was presented nicely but was average and for a Thai restaurant we would expect jasmine rice to be soft and fluffy not dry and lumpy. The best part was the chicken green curry. Overall disappointing we went home for a hot chocolate."

"I’m really sorry to have to write this review, as we’ve been to Bake My Day approx in excess of 20 times in the past. We often come with friends and all of us feel the same and agree with comments below. Food is of good quality, although portion sizes vary I ordered avocado on toast and paid £2.50 for extra bacon; it came with 1 slice of bacon which is disappointing. they can’t accommodate children. I asked for 1 2 scrambled eggs and beans for our 18 month old and was told everything is pre packaged into adult portions therefore I’d have to order from the adult menu. I can’t understand why it’s too much trouble to cook 2 scrambled eggs and put some beans in a pan. Also, is it really that fresh if everything is pre made??? staff are very hit and miss. Sometimes friendly but often a bit stand off ish. We often don’t feel that welcome (plenty of other reviews also mention this). food timings. Food often comes late and we rarely eat together. We ordered 4 breakfasts (5 including the child’s) and there was 25 mins between the first and last arriving. finally the cost. We often get a cake/flapjack to take away and the bill is always around the £50 mark. I don’t mind paying for good food but when I pay £50 for 2 people and a child to have breakfast I expect exceptional service. We pay approx £90 100 between the 4 of us and this price is similar to 5* and Michelin establishments in Leeds and York such as The Ivy and The Star In The City. Unfortunately the 4 of us have decided that this is the last straw for us which is disappointing as we like to support small local businesses. If it’s too much trouble to make some scrambled eggs and beans for my daughter, and if it’s too hard to ensure all 4 breakfasts come out at the same time, and if it’s too hard to be welcoming to customers, especially when I’m paying £50 for breakfast, then I’ll take my custom elsewhere."

"A group of 8 friends recently dined at The Spread for their first Fish and Fizz evening. Despite some difficulties with the online booking system only accepting up to 6 guests, we were able to confirm our reservation for 8 after a visit to the restaurant. The table for 8 was set up and ready for us upon arrival. Drinks were easy to order from the bar or our friendly female server. We all decided on the Fish and Chips option, with the choice to swap out the Fizz for a bottle of wine. Both the Fizz and Wine were enjoyable. The fish was cooked to perfection, with crispy batter and a generous portion size. The chips were good, although some of us felt they could have been a bit crispier and less brown. The service throughout our visit was exceptional, with smiling and prompt staff at both the table and the bar. Overall, it was a great first visit and we look forward to returning in the future."
