"We felt the food here was a bit like the curate 's egg, good in parts (and great in some , less so in others. On the plus side were the starters (especially the gin cured salmon and desserts I love the white chocolate parfait with raspberries so much I had it both nights. Likewise my husband enjoyed the cheese selection and had it twice. But the mains let it down. The duck was a little overcooked and therefore dry. The cod was tasty but the skin (often my favourite bit! burnt and bitter tasting, and the portion was on the mean side. And the lamb rump, according to my husband, was tough in parts, although he liked the feta croquette that accompanied it. A further niggle in a place that has pretensions to fine dining, the paper tablecloths really jarred! On the question below about whether I 'd recommend it, I 'd really welcome a 'not sure ' option, but I 've gone for yes on balance as they do some things well and maybe we were unlucky with our mains choices?"

The food was decent, but we felt like we were hoping for a higher quality meal considering the price. We did appreciate a nice bottle of Malbec that we had with our dinner.

We went to this restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had an early reservation at 6:30pm and were the only ones dining at that time, so there wasn't much of an ambiance besides the excellent background music playing at just the right volume. The staff was friendly and the food was good, although a bit pricey, but that seems to be the norm everywhere these days. We would consider returning, especially if they start serving lunch. Currently, they only offer evening reservations.

The restaurant was very quiet therefore lacking a bit of atmosphere. The waitress was efficient if a little speedy. The chef kindly made me a special vegetarian pasta dish as I had already had the vegetarian option on a previous evening. Not a large choice of dishes but probably due to lack of clientele to avoid waste. My pudding was an unusual ginger cheesecake with some gently stewed rhubarb to accompany it. Nice and light. Just a shame the place wasn’t a bit more busy but nonetheless a pleasant experience.

"My Wife and I don't travel so well these days but decided to go a little further afield from our usual Highcliffe and Christchurch haunts we live in Mudeford. We went twice in point of fact. The first visit was the 21st June when My wife and I had a quiet Birthday celebration lunch prior to the Family celebration later in the day. It was excellent. We only had the Mains and despite it being busy and not having booked we were served promptly and cheerfully with a round of drinks. My Wife had Chicken Pie and I had Liver and Bacon. Both were excellent and my Wifes vegetables were freshly done. I don't have vegetables. We liked it so much we went back three days later to celebrate our youngest Daughters birthday and again had lunch before the Family celebration later in the day. The meal was as fabulous as three days prior. My Wife had a Chicken Roast, our Daughter had Beef Roast and I had an amazingly well filled Steak and Merlot Pie of the Week. As before the vegetables were freshly done. Unusually for us we also had puddings (Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Cheescake and Apple Tart with Custard. All were excellent. All washed down with Tea and a Latte the former being served in nicely twee Teapots. Total cost £80 for the three of us on the second visit. Worth every penny. All in all First Class and couldn't fault it. Disabled parking nicely located in the front with ample parking for those more mobile at the side and back. Just a note for History buffs. The main building was built in 1853 by John Harrison(? a Carpenter thus the name Carpenters Arms."
