"Recently, I was presented with a challenge. Some friends of mine out of towners, if you will were looking for a pub in the Bloomsbury area for a Sunday pub lunch. A Facebook thread was started, and various suggestions pitched to the floor. I calmly waded through the misguided comments, and, with calm authority, suggested the Marquis. I knew that it was a sure fire choice. Sat facing the ugly Brunswick Centre, the Marquis is a surprisingly pretty pub, nicely done up, and always busy. It is trendy, with a wide array of lagers and ales for those whose fancy such a thing tickles. That day, sitting among my friends, who chatted and laughed, I couldn't help but feel proud of the atmosphere I had helped to cultivate with my choice of venue. There was a good couple of hours of drinking and merry making before thoughts turned to the food. One by one, the party flocked to the bar to put in their order. I went with the West Country Beef. The meat was cooked with consideration, coming out a lovely medium rare, scoring points for both tenderness and taste. The home made Yorkshire pudding was just gravy, and so too was the gravy. The potatoes were unexceptional, but certainly got the job done. Perhaps my only moan and groan would be with regards to the vegetables, which were a little soggy. Then again, I never ordered the meal for the vegetables. I decided to consider them a decoration, and didn't let them dampen the dish. And after the meal was done and dusted, we lingered at the comfortable booth in the comfortable pub, and had a few more drinks. Winter was in full swing and the pub was about as cosy as it gets. The weather outside was frightful and all that jazz. The overwhelming drawback is the mullah. This is not a cheap pub. But if you go in knowing this in advance, and reconcile yourself to the fact, I find that it isn't so expensive as to ruin the experience. Did I make a fine choice with the pub? I reckon so. In fact, I have it on good confidence that one of these out of towner chums has since returned with his own friend in order to show off his knowledge of the best of Bloomsbury. A resounding success. Mark my words, I swear by the Marquis. Screw Flanders."

beautiful looking pub and friendly staff. Unfortunately, eating was too much thymian and salt in roasted and very hard bark that was refunded.

Been there for a pint. Many people there, a bit crammed. Music is good (Postpunkaera). Good range of beverages and snacks. Wanted to go there for a long time, finally made it.

Spacious pub, lots of seats and tables, a trad-modern decor with dark spaces for intimate liasions! Wide variety of beers to choose from and an equally wide pub menu with a variety of good grub.

Nice little pub with a pleasant atmosphere/vibe. The standard selection of beers on tap 2x Staropramen for £10.50 in London is a pretty good price. Didn't try the food though having seen it served to other tables, looked good. Would recommend as a stop if you're in the area!

We had two delightful dinners at this restaurant while we were staying in the Bloomsbury area of London. Both meals were great, especially the fish and chips. We also tried the strawberry “mess” dessert and it was delicious! Our server was Marta, and we appreciated her good cheer and hospitality!

very decent pub food and service is quite fast. I have sampled a lot of appetizers with a group and they were all very appetizing, but be warned, the portions are a little small (can be a care if their group is particularly large). they have a lot to do if they order 5 appetizers or something. it is a beautiful place for group dinner and meetings.

We had our work Christmas party here (in March thank you Covid... and overall I think it was great. The food was tasty with the falafel being particularly good. The staff were superb in making sure all the orders were right and allowed us to order drinks from the bar which was pretty fast and had interesting beer and soft drink options. The music was very loud and at times intrusive in the conversation so not the right place for a dinner if you want to do a lot of talking. It was also really dark which meant the food lacked a bit of the wow factor in appearance. The upstairs dining room was brighter and quieter so perhaps worth considering for private functions. I find myself at least twice a month on the russell square, sometimes twice a week, at meetings in the buildings of the university london.
