"We have been lunching at this pub off and on for years and in the past have enjoyed the food, but June 8th was not a good experience. I think the Roast pork, with apple sauce on ciabatta and fries from the specials board is actually the worst thing we have ever been served with anywhere, ever! Not sure if it was the last of the pork as it disappeared off the specials board whilst we were there) but it was beyond awful. Two slices of pork but so much fat and inedible gristle ! and why was the ciabatta toasted until it was black? Served on a very small plate with a little salad, there was insufficient space to remove the fat and gristle without the other bits falling off the edge of the plate. We don’t complain, but if anyone had bothered to ask how it was I would have said, we would never order this again, or recommend it understatement) but the girl clearing the table never asked, despite all the fat and gristle from the two portions being piled up and very visible, so I guess a review is the next best thing. It is a very reasonably priced establishment, but we would happily pay more for better quality, and it may be some time before we return."

Not hugely impressed. The vegetables were cooked but stringy although the quantities served were more than adequate. Tables sticky

This is a great pub. The range of beers and wines is great and a cut above the normal pub selections. The food is exceptional. Service is quick, friendly and efficient. A must see if you are in Sailsbury.

I'd booked a table which was ironic as it's a very large pub and there were only 5 other people there. Service was good and the fish pie we both had wa svery good--plenty of salmon. Must be a good pub for quizzes and music etc

It was a very hot day and we were supplied with plenty of ice and water. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It is a very handy location for the cathedral and museum, both of which we were visiting, but nice and quiet. Ver carta

Was just having a stroll around Salisbury with family looking for somewhere for lunch. This is one of those places that you congratulate yourselves on finding. Quirky decor, clean, friendly, excellent service and gorgeous food. Lovely courtyard garden with little private huts and plenty of seating. Will definitely return on our next visit.

We were visiting Salisbury for the day and on walking around four The Old Ale and Coffee House and decided to pop in for a drink and some lunch. We were greeted by a lovely young guy called Owain. We really can't praise him enough, he was friendly, polite and very helpful. The food was great too and we didn't have to wait long. Would definitely recommend The Old Ale and Coffee House. Thanks to Owain.

Just back from lunch at this quirky, lovely restaurant in the middle of Salisbury. The place is a one off. And the staff are excellent. Couldn’t do enough for us. There were only 2 on duty it was busy but they still had time to chat. The food was excellent. I had wild mushrooms with toast and a poached Duck egg. Excellent at only £11. My wife had a superb aubergine gratin at only £11.50. I would highly recommend this excellent restaurant come pub come bar come coffee house. Ver carta

Our pre arranged lunch for a group of 21 exceeded our expectations. This was the first experience at the Old Ale and Coffee House for the majority of those who attended hugely impressed by the warm welcome and attention. With such a large group it was inevitable that the menu choices were varied from chowder to fish, burgers, steak and salads. All dishes were tasty and well presented generally all felt that we had enjoyed a super meal in a nice and relaxed ambience. We will certainly return quite soon.

So I just want to give an honest review. The location, decor, and staff were amazing. Really friendly and helpful. But the most important part, why we were there, was for the roast on a Sunday. I can truly say one of the worst roasts we've had. I know they had problems with the fridge, but it was a dry chicken breast on a bed of bland cabbage, with, what I think, was mashed carrot and swede, and roast potatos, that were not crispy or fresh tasting and bisto gravy. If I were the chef, I would have been embarrassed serving that. Now I should have realised, as we were the only reservation that Sunday and was very quiet in the pub compared to a very busy Salisbury. We didn't say anything at the...

"We stayed here ten years ago and thought it was wonderful and worth every penny. We were so excited to return, but really Disapointed. The grounds are lovely and we were pleased with our room. The children loved the outdoor space and the pool What really let us down was the food and service. There was no luxury here. The family dining choices were poor. The children's meal was bad one had fish gougons and sweet potato fries which were very salty. The other two had pizza, the small was served as half a pizza, the large was a conventional round shape. Both were shop bought bases (cardboard) with grated Cheddar on the top. Something I would not feed them at home let alone expect in a supposedly high end dining. My husband's steak was chewy. My main, whole plaice with creamed potatoes, the potato was served in a ceramic dish and it was cold. It was taken away and then took ten minutes to return by which point I had eaten the fish. The food was incredibly expensive considering how poor the offerings were. The next day we ate a very late lunch in Bath so we would not have to eat at the hotel. The breakfast buffet area had some nice items but was really understocked and allowed to run to empty. The staff functioned but not at a steady rate, we found the service slow and the staff disinterested. Such a contrast to our previous visit. The person in charge we found sullen and felt as if our presence was an inconvenience. When we walked through to the dining areas we would hop out of the staff'so way for fear of being bulldozed. When we left the receptionist was polite but did not ask if we enjoyed our stay. A week later I had an email to complete a survey and nobody got in touch despite the same feedback as given here. Very dispointing. Lovely room and surroundings but poor food and poor attitude from staff. Last year we stayed in a hotel that cost 65% less than Wooley Grange and had a much better experience."
