"Stopped here for lunch with my son between college sessions. It was a hot day but we sat by a window and the pub was very airy. It has a nice atmosphere and there is a mix of families, groups and singles having a pint with their paper. The staff are very friendly. It 's a nice place to sit and people (and dog) watch, if you are so inclined. We were told food would take poss. 45 mins which was just about doable, it came in 30 which was good, at the time... My son (ASD) asked for a burger with cheese and with NOTHING else. It arrived very pink, with lukewarm bacon on, which I quickly removed and disposed of and the cheese was only half melted so easy to restore to the burger. There should have been alarm bells here but foolishly we ate on as we were pushed for time. Apparently it all tasted ok if not hot. I had scampi and chips. Strangely they all arrived in one pile. With mushy peas in a pot. Some of my scampi weren 't too hot in the middle and two were still grey and watery. It wasn 't very appetising. (I left a few). Fast forward and we have both had upset stomachs. My son has been violently ill through Friday and ongoing into Saturday. We *probably* won 't be eating here again! If you do choose to eat here and your food arrives 'a bit odd '...DON 'T RISK IT!"

Delicious mulled wine, good ambience, reasonable prices, bar staff member Tom was really helpful with recommendations and the heaters in the beer garden make all the difference in these winter months.

Visited this pub before in the summer and was good in the garden. Visited in November and the BIRRA MORETTI tasted off and the barman did not believe me, disappointed that this good location, good pub would be happy to sell off beer.

Went in today normally don’t have to wait long for food but today over an hour this was not relayed to us by the member of staff who served us this would have given us the option to either wait or go somewhere else think management need to address this issue Ver carta

Went to the purple dog today and was disgusted by the standard of food. Both me and my partner had the bacon cheeseburger and chips along with onion rings My partner had to cut off the burnt bits on the burger but left most of it I started eating the edge which was fine not the best not the worst then I bit into the main part and had a mouth full of hard burnt burger. I don’t know how they managed to get it that burnt as I’ve never burnt a burger like that it left the most disgusting taste in my mouth for ages the onion rings weee absolutely lovely but even they didn’t remove the taste

I went here for lunch this past Sunday and had a jacket potato with tuna and salad and then apple crumble for dessert. The food was just okay, nothing to shout about. Didn't think any more of it until I got home an hour or so later and noticed I felt sick. Then I was sick four times together with other symptoms as well, I couldn't even keep water in my body and an ambulance got called for me after a few hours. I wasn't sure if it was food poisoning or not since what I ate didn't seem particularly risky but after seeing some of the other reviews on here I'm starting to think it was. So obviously won't ever be eating here again.

Went here for the first time recently on a Friday night. Music playing a variety on songs from different genres and decades which was a fun playlist to listen to. I believe you can order from their website however I only ordered from the bar on this evening. Staff were very polite, made eye contact and were very smiley. 10/10 service. Wasn’t very busy in the pub on this occasion, half tables were filled and a few people at the bar but it was a nice amount. Prices for bottles of wine could be slightly revised as the cheapest bottle is £20. Although not extortionate, Rosé White Zinf was £20 and definitely could be revised to be slightly more budget friendly. There was a mix of different ages a... Ver carta

I used to come into town especially for the excellent Sunday Roast at the Purple Dog. Unfortunately it is now 'good ', but no longer 'very good ', as it is now without the same very high quality of beef as several years previously. This may be because all the town centre butchers are now closed, or it may just be economising, though menu prices have risen! I suspect too, that the previous excellent chef left a while back. Several years ago I remarked gratefully that the gravy was delicious and skilfully home-made, rather than of the easier packet mix type, as it tastes and looks now. For some reason, a very dense 'stuffing ' ball came with the beef and vegetables. This may have been intended...

Poor review due to poor management on the day. This is possible the most easy going pub in colchester, usually no agro no drama and a good atmosphere. Dog friendly shouldn't mean that dogs are allowed to sit at the table and eat of of the table. When mentioned to the manager he said he will look at the CCTV, the whole pub could see the dog sitting at the table, it even had a knitted waistcoat on. After a heated discussion and an alcohol fuelled point of view from me, and a poorly trained customer service manager the security made everything worse. Honesty points to take from this, 1. dont drink for hrs in the same place 2. Dont have an opinion about anything 3. Dont spend alot of money eatin...

"Carluccios was my first dining experience out following I was impressed by the measures put in place by the team and how well these were adhered to. I felt completely at ease throughout my meal, staff wore face masks, tables were socially distanced, staff...were visibly washing their hands/using hand sanitiser throughout and the cleanliness of the restaurant was unmatched. It was reassuring to see these protocols in place during these uncertain times. The staff really went above and beyond to deliver the authentic Carluccio’s experience despite the current challenges! My experience was amazing from beginning until end. I was greeted by management at the door and by the wonderful bar team, Gemma and Emma, who made me feel welcomed with their friendly greetings as I shown to my table. I was then greeted by my amazing waitress Sasina, who is an absolute credit to the team! She was so friendly and bubbly, very attentive to our needs and delivered an overall wonderful experience! Our drinks order was taken promptly, we were asked if we had any allergies (very impressive and offered bread and olives to start off with. Once our drinks arrived, our food order was taken quickly without any hassle. Sasina suggested the lasagna for my main with a side of the garlic and rosemary roast potatoes. Her suggestions were superb! Sasina was also very mindful of the fact my guest was a vegetarian, making sure to point out all the vegetarian options (and even went out of her way to get some vegetarian Parmesan cheese Our food came promptly and cannot be faulted. It tasted incredible (big thanks to the amazing chefs We had the garlic focaccia with cheese, tomato bruschetta and calamari to start which was delicious. The calamari is the best I have ever had! And for mains, we had the lasagna and the spinach and ricotta ravioli (which the lovely Sasina was able to change the usual sauce to a tomato one with a side of garlic and rosemary roast potatoes. Our meal was phenomenal and the service was even better! My mother and I will be returning to dine with the amazing team at Carluccios without a doubt! Overall, the restaurant had a lovely, welcoming ambiance. All of the staff were smiley and friendly and all made a point of saying goodbye to us as we left the restaurant. I look forward to coming back and trying more of the mouth-watering new menu! Thank you all for a terrific experience!"

"as you all should know, this girl loves to eat her! So I wanted to try something else I didn't have before. so yak yeti was your turn. I ordered online, although the restaurant is like a 5-minute drive away, (feeling fazy did not want to go to dress up, etc.) so I decided for my starter networks. the food was delivered within 30 minutes, it was still hot, bonus! container that they used were very good, so no spillage at all. popadoms were crispy, went nice with the dips. regarding eating, not only did it look delicious, it also melts delicious. then I tried and o to the m to the g, it was spicy, too spicy in the did that I continued to eat. my mouth has broken the food, as I said, looked delicious, so I tried another gift from the dish shot, still too spicy. Now I have no taste at all, but it is a Nepalese restaurant that they use spiced by many species, I guess. but whatever they use is too spicy for me, if I tried to continue, I would later be in jeopardy, because my just don't do spicy food. as a girl who loves to eat, I will not destroy this restaurant just because I cannot tolerate spicy foods. in future I will notify the restaurant to add not seasoned over very mild to future orders. this restaurant has a very good high review online so I encourage them to try it for themselves, just remember that eating can be sharp. otherwise they hope a wonderful day! love as always justine xxx styleoutyourhome"
