"Hats off to the manager and the staff. Had a drink yesterday and found out there was music on outside so we stayed for a few more. They have taken their Covid safe duties much more seriously than most of the large chains. Lots of...sanitising and distancing. However what made the difference was the manager actually monitored the entire music session to ensure people remained seated and distant, even after quite a few beers had been consumed. At the same time table service was efficient and friendly. In these uncertain times it was great to feel a small sense of normality returning and pubs like this should be recognised for the hard work that has gone into enabling this. Well done again."

What a great way to spend an hour or two. The drinks on offer were as always very good. The atmosphere great and very friendly. It’s been years since I’ve been and can’t think why I don’t go more often .. maybe kids who...have since grown up. Thank you for letting me relive my youth in a lovely bar.

The Raven is a big pub, not filled with natural day light as you venture into it's caverns, but full of old world this is how a pub should look and feel It feels like it has not changed much since I was a teen...in there, and perhaps some of the clientele have not either. It's not young and trendy, but real

Went for a quick lunch with my parents. Sandwiches nicely presented with fresh bread and a dressed salad garnish. Good selection of ale at a decent price. At first glance decor is dark and grubby. At second glance a lot of the interior is originally...from Wigan’s heyday and just needs a little restoration. Lovely

I am a born and bred wiganer and today is the first time I have ever eaten here. The pub has a great friendly atmosphere as pubs used to be. Too many old pubs are stripped of their original interiors taking away their identity. I had...some sandwiches which were delicious accompanied by a side salad. My mum had a hot beef and onion barm cake with some chips. The food was very good value for money and there is a great selection of drinks on offer . All washed down with a good dose of nostalgia.

I'm giving it a five star review even though it isn't perfect. For a start, the seats and the carpet are quite worn and in need of a little renovation; and, in this day and age, it's cash only (even the buses where I live...prefer contactless). But, a great atmosphere, friendly customers, really helpful and courteous staff and just a feeling of being in a relaxing place well, in the afternoon anyway. No background music or multiple television screens. A good range of real ales/cask beers if that is your thing. I think there is a food menu although I didn't see anybody eating when I was there but it was late afternoon.

"After reading the reviews we was really looking forward to eating here ,however it turned out to be the worst tapas and worst service we have ever received . After waiting 10 minutes for someone to take our drinks order we then waited a further 30 mins to be served with what can only be described as toast with tasteless mushed up tomatoes on , this was inedible and hardly touched , a further 20 minutes on and we was served a single dish of chicken between two of us again this was very bland and resembled nothing like a original tapas dish more like a chicken korma again this was hardly touched . When I enquired as to where the rest of the food was I was told they was very busy . With this we decided to cut our loses and asked for the bill . Before leaving we tried to have a conversation with the manager who is also the chef to give some honest feedback ,however he wasn’t open to listening , he’s response was “it’s normal in a tapas restaurant to receive one dish at a time between two with a large gap between dishes wasn’t it explained to you that’s what tapas is “We felt this was a very patronising remark as we eat tapas on a regular basis and know this is definitely not the case . To matters worse there was people who came in after us with multiple plates and tucking in nicely to their meals . The manager who was obviously struggling to cope on a busy Saturday night should have just apologised and admitted our order had been overlooked . If you are looking for authentic Tapas with excellent service in Wigan go to Casa Carlos this place doesn’t deserve your hard earned money ."
