"Dined here Sunday evening with family. It was my recommendation to come here, as I’ve been a few times before with work colleagues and friends. Having the back restaurant space was perfect for us, a family of eight for our belated Christmas get together. The food was fantastic, plenty of specials available and a huge range of meals to please all palettes. The portion sizes were as good as I recall (which was a big selling point when pitching this location to family! I had the large fish and chips which was excellent, fresh crisp fish and a good portion of chips, peas and salad. 10/10! My only niggles was the service and the banoffee pie. We found it tricky to catch anyone’s attention for extra drinks, and were looking to chase up forgotten drinks missed off a previous order. When drinks were served, they were handed to us by the rim, which is always a little off putting. Banoffee pie was served in a pastry case, not a biscuit base which I felt a little odd. With such a great selection of puddings, I wish I’d selected something else. The bill was served to us just with the price written on a duplicate pad page? Not an itemised recipe as expected. Very odd. A good experience all in all great value for money, and decent food. I’ll definitely be back."

Went Thursday night with party of 8. Great food and ambience. Far too generous portions followed by bottle of complimentary port. Service excellent. Great time had by all.

Decided to have lunch on the way to Faversham Quay took a bit of a detour after reading reviews, what a great decision that turned out to be. Lovely pub, lots of thought given to some outside seating and the food was second to none, don,t hesitate to visit Ver carta

Original table booked for 5 extended to 6. Arrived 1.20 food arrived at 2.10pm. Veg cold meat tough. Asked to leave the table as they had a party of 25 coming in at 2.45pm therefore we couldn’t have dessert! The art of hospitality was non existent. If you want a decent Sunday roast this is not the place to go.

All round great experience! Our group of 10 had only good things to say about the food. We all had a mix from the menu on offer, I was very impressed with the quality and value for money the Red Lion had to offer. Warm friendly staff accommodated our large party along with needs for small children. We will defiantly be back for another visit.

We have been here more than once and I thought it about time I updated my review, especially as this time we took friends. We always receive a warm welcome. The food is excellent I particularly love the chicken curry The pub is dog friendly and has a nice, large beer garden and outside seating. There is a restaurant and pub area. Can’t wait to return! We had a family Xmas meal, seven of us sat down at 2pm had a drink and waited for a hour for starters then another hour for mains but only two dinners were served, we watched while they ate then they watched while we ate, parts of the dinners were cold and when we told the lady she stood laughing and offered us free drinks, with the same apology of we're short staffed exactly the same excuse as the time before. Totally unacceptable and definitely won't be going back!!

I am a minibus driver who was taking a group of elderly people to the Red Lion p/h for afternoon tea and coffee. what a great welcoming we received with staff offering to help with the not so able passengers on entrance into the Red Lion p/h. the seating was great and everything was served within 10 mins of our arrival. we were a group of 14 and nothing was too much trouble. We had beautiful scones and cake afterwards which was served with Tea and Coffee. I would strongly recommend Red Lion p/h for those that have not visited.

"Having been to the Phoenix several times and I believe, this to be my second average review of the food and service, you 'd think they would have taken heed, but clearly not. Firstly, like most top end restaurants in London, they are reserving the right to charge for no shows £20 per head). But, what they are also doing, which is very unfair, is charging you for cancellations within 24 hours of the booking at £10 per head. If one or more of our friends had fallen ill over night it 's the flu season at the moment), they would have been were forced to go for an expensive average Sunday lunch, whilst spreading their germs to the other diners. It also poses the question, what would some do if you book a table less than 24 hours like we did) and then decide to cancel? The excuse that orders for food have already been placed doesn 't really hold water. The Sunday menu forces you to order a minimum of 2 courses at £34 per head. Some of the top London restaurants are charging less for far more opulent Sunday roasts e.g. the Jugged Hare at the Barbican). The Sunday lunch served was simply very average and not value for money. Finally, why are the desserts here, always consistently so bad? I ordered a baked cheesecake and got cream squirted on a piece of cake. When I asked what I had been served, I was told it was chef 's interpretation of a cheesecake. The menu clearly stated baked cheesecake. Not even in my wildest dreams can you interpret a baked cheesecake as a piece of cake with creamed squirted on it! This was promptly returned and replaced with a vile chocolate tart, with pastry so hard I couldn 't cut into it without the fear of smashing the plate it was served on. The chocolate was over salted and the chantilly cream served with it unsweetened. Save your money, go elsewhere."
