"Being in Strasbourg, my colleagues wanted to take me to an Indian for my opinion. This is what they thought was the best in the area and I would agree with them. Not far from the tram station (10 minutes walk) and just behind Alexandros...this is hidden in an alley. First impressions were good with the restaurant clean and decorated well. The food as is expected has been modified to suit the region which means you will come across the unusual experience of cheese being present in nearly every dish e.g Choley (Chickpeas) with paneer. It was not to my suiting but my colleagues liked it so I suppose I am not the target audience. The food was fresh and the taste was as you would expect. They offer good Desi (Indian) tea so I would recommend you try it if you have the chance. While it cannot be compared to the restaurants in the UK where there is a larger sub-continental population and therefore more traditional taste this is not by any means a bad place as long as you don't raise your expectations too high. It's a good family run restaurant with good service and a large variety of food. Run by a Punjabi family who knows what they are cooking, this is a good place to try if you would like to sample Indian food and are in the Alsace area. P.S: I would recommend checking with the manager if the food is Halal before dining. If you are not satisfied with the response the vegetarian section is still tasty and has a decent variety."

Really surprised by the wonderful and fast service.Beautiful location, which is not directly in the city center(1 min walk), that's why it is really calm and relaxing.Perfect for long stays. Also the food was delicious for a really good price. There is also the possibility...to sit outside on the terrace.

Excellent lunch time specials... service is friendly and courteous... This is the Only excellent Indian that always cooks very fresh ingredients and spices which means you cannot expect such wonderful food unless you are patient! For under 20 Euros for two we ate 2 dishes...and had two drinks... a dish includes a choice of 5 meat or vegetarian dishes with salad and rice.

Last I reviewed this restaurant, it was in 2016. Three years later back in Kehl we dropped by to see if the restaurant was still open. Yes, it was! So we ended up ordering a chicken curry take-out for old times take. Although we had...ordered one serving, it was plenty for two people. It came with a small salad and a papadum. We ordered our take-out lunch at home. Glad we stopped by.

The one thing I like about this restaurant is the size of the tables! I know this might sound a bit strange but in many Indian restaurants the tables are just too small and you dont have enough room for everything once the dishes are...served.. well not so in the Safron Elephant! loads of room! The food I find is of good quality, tasty, not overly adapted for the European palate and the portions are just the right size. The atmosphere is calm and the staff are very very pleasant.

We went there again, this time for lunch after 3 years. Since it was summer we sat outside. There were around 6 tables but only 2 were occupied. I remember a bigger lunch crowd last time. We were there close to 1.30 p.m on a...Friday. Lunch was served only until 2 according to the menu. May be we were the last customers??? We ordered lamb curry and mutton curry from the lunch menu. The prices were 7.50 euros 8 euros. The plate had a generous portion of meat, small mound of rice and some salad. The food was good, but I would not say great. The sauce was too concentrated and was a bit bitter almost like some Magi cubes were added to taste. The owner a female family member) was serving the food...
