"It started off well although I find it irritating these days that hosts do not indicate to you if table service or at the counter. Nice ambiance and once I had gone to the counter and ordered a ploughman's I thought great place. My latte was served. The ploughman's that arrived didn't quite look like the website photos. But had the cheeses. The pickles and chutney were a bit laim. Salad ok but the bread very doughy. Half way through my eating a dog was sick next to me. I Left.."

"our first time to visit shaftesbury and during the walk through the city we came over this pub, so decided when we came back a few days later after we had arrived from motcombe, we would try it a little bit. we were welcomed by a friendly and welcome barman who said our dog was also welcome. the sun seemed, so we sat outside in the well-maintained beer garden, which had a beautiful view. lunch menu had all the classic pub-grub to choose from. we both decided for the steak burger and chips, perfect size drank and very tasty. so beautiful we stayed for a few more drinks, enjoy the sun and relaxed atmosphere. we met the renter who kindly brought us water for our dog, although it was his day free. highly recommended."

"We were really looking forward to trying out this restaurant with our friends as most of the reviews on here are great, however we will never be returning to this restaurant. The food was awful so we let the staff know and said sorry but we cannot eat the curry as it was way too sweet and had no other flavour or spice in it. The staff member started accusing us of ordering the wrong thing on the menu and not reading it properly and got very defensive instead of saying sorry and offering to fix the problem. He was saying we should have told them how we wanted it first before ordering, but we always order the same curry at every restaurant we go to and have never had one as terrible as this. The staff member continued to argue with us in front of the other diners in the restaurant, which was embarrassing and the worst customer service I have ever experienced. If we had an apology and offered an alternative straight away it wouldn't have been a problem and we may have returned but as the customer service was awful I will never be returning. WARNING to anyone going to this restaurant if you have a problem with your food get ready for a loud abusive argument in the restaurant in front of everyone!!! It was a traumatising experience and the staff member who was yelling at us should be ashamed of himself! They did take my curry off the bill in the end, but that was only after a huge argument and was too little too late!"

"What a disappointment. We were looking forward to a family meal to celebrate a birthday and this was a disaster. Our order was taken and we then waited an hour and a half for the meal to be served, during which no-one came to the table to apologise or to ask if we would like more drinks. After enquiring how much longer we would have to wait, the food finally arrived. Three of the party had ordered the steak pie with new potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The pie itself, although meaty, was very dry, the potatoes, which were sliced, were barely cooked and the only vegetables were frozen peas. The gravy, which was served separately in a small jug, was very thick and unappetising. Two more of us chose beef lasagna which although passable, was obviously not home-made. The other meal was a burger which was also not up to the mark. Being an old pub we expected pleasant and comfortable surroundings, but the room to which we were directed was neither. Painted a very dark green and with bare wooden tables which weren 't 'dressed ' in any way, no flowers anywhere and a wood floor, it was quite gloomy and depressing on what was a wet and cloudy evening. Altogether an experience we would definitely not repeat."

"This restaurant used to be great, but ever since the new manager took over, the service has declined. I waited over an hour and still did not receive my food, so I asked for a refund. The two women working there were very busy but still lovely as always. Ten customers walked out while I was waiting because no one came to serve them. What happened to all the staff?"
