"New to the village and finally tried our local for a lunch with family. Lots of us and we asked to sit outside which was beautiful on a sunny day and the kids loved the garden. Lady that served us was extremely helpful and friendly. Food was all made fresh and really hearty and tasty. Some of the group enjoyed a game of pool inside. The selection of gins was so brilliant we couldn’t help but try the welsh marmalade one which was served with orange and fever tree tonic delicious! Everybody left very full and very happy. Will certainly be returning! A very welcoming proper pub, lucky to have it so close!"

Have visited several times since moving to Barrowby it has become a regular Saturday lunch venue. Good food, well prepared, good well kept beers and friendly staff. If your in the area give it a try you won't be disappointed.

In the past year, my family and I have enjoyed several meals at The White Swan. Each time, we leave feeling satisfied and pleased with the delicious food that is always well-cooked. Even though we may not dine out every week, The White Swan has become our favorite restaurant. Ver carta

The food here used to be great and very reasonably priced. Have not been for a few years due to covid, what a change we found. Prices gone up hugely and food nowhere near the quality it used to be. Our plates were half empty when presented to us, surely they could have put a few more chips on or a shovel of peas to make it look better.

My family and I visited this restaurant for our Saturday night dinner. We ordered a variety of dishes including rump steak, all the trimmings, bangers and mash, burger, and Hunters chicken. Everything was cooked perfectly, especially the steak which was sourced from a local butcher only 100 meters away from the pub. John, the owner, also has an impressive selection in his cellar, so I highly recommend visiting for a meal and a drink. #SupportLocalBusinesses

Popped in this pub after going to watch local village football club Barrowby FC as this is where they go back to aftermatch. A lovely little pub in the centre of the village, but it only has a small car park. The pub is very clean and tidy and the staff are friendly. I enjoyed with my son and wife a chip sandwich with the footballers and had a couple of pints of shandy, whilst the wife had a non alcoholic Lager and son had a coke, lovely pub and will pop in again Ver carta

What a lovely local (to us) pub with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The dining area is limited to around four tables but if you book in advance you won't be disappointed. You can eat in the bar area but it is usually quite busy. The food is well presented, hot and tasty for a very reasonable price. The staff are lovely and look after you very well. The pub had a good range of spirits and wine available as well as a variety of ales including some guest ales. All in all a great place to spend a little time.

Ate at the Swan two weeks ago and chose a Hunters Chicken. previously tried the steaks several times and they are brilliant! Is this just a pub steak joint or can it provide alternative dishes? The Hunters Chicken proved the point. Generous helping excellently cooked truly delicious. The large chicken breast was accompanied by a bacon wrap with a delicious sauce between the bacon and the chicken. The double fried chips and the salad added to an already excellent meal. I couldn't eat all the chips but very much enjoyed the salad. One day I will be empty enough to be able to tackle a dessert as well.

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
