"I want to start by saying I don't usually give reviews but... Myself and a friend booked Thornbury Castle afternoon tea £35 per head. Fairly costly but justifiable as the hotel surroundings are beautiful. The waitresses service was good. The cakes scones were delicious the tea selection was varied. However, we were very disappointed when served sandwiches which were not quite as fresh as one would expect. After a polite word with our waitress, they were replaced and we were informed chef had ‘just made them for us’. I'm afraid this was clearly not the case as they were still quite dry on one side cold which suggested Chef had not ‘just made them’ and they were from the original batch which was stored in the fridge. When this was pointed out, our waitress explained the bread is stored in the fridge. She then spoke to chef who said the sandwiches were ok. I've had several stays at this beautiful hotel, been for afternoon tea multiple times, had many family meals there including my 50 birthday lunch and I've never had reason to complain but I'm afraid someone needs to have a word with Chef as it is NOT ok to serve bread which has started to dry out. As my friend pointed out, Chef was not eating the sandwiches, we were they certainly were not fresh. Our bill came to £77 £7 was an added service charge which, under the circumstances, I felt needed to be deducted."

We had a delicious dining experience at Thornbury Castle restaurant. The staff were attentive (Bethany and Marina) and served us knowledgeably about the dishes. I highly recommend Thornbury Castle for a high class meal.

Visited Thornbury Castle twice for Afternoon Tea. Can highly recommend it for anyone celebrating a birthday or for that special treat. A great atmosphere in a building with so much history. Food was excellent and served to a very high standard. Customer service was fantastic and looked after well by all the staff.

Had afternoon tea here in the summer just me and a friend and since then we have had other afternoon teas all over somerset. We decided this was the best afternoon tea we had all year. The afternoon tea was great but we had a tour too and looked round the gardens all the staff were lovely. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.

We have dined at Thornbury Castle many times and it never fails to impress. The Sunday lunch was fantastic, with perfect roast beef and a delicious dessert. The lemon cheesecake was outstanding. The staff were exceptional, providing a warm and friendly welcome. They were very accommodating of dietary restrictions, with Pedro being particularly helpful.

Beautiful old castle. We had the worse Sunday lunch ever, the vegetables were cold, Yorkshire puddings cold and very hard, and as for the beef, it was obviously the cheapest and toughest cut of meat. Our local pubs serve good hot food and with meat that is a joy to eat, and at a quarter of the price. At Thornbury Castle you are paying for the venue and not the quality of the food. Awful doesn’t truly describe how bad it was.

Visited here for Sunday lunch for the first time, menu has three choices for starter, main and Desert. The quality of the food is very good with a nice portion of Beef medium to Rare and a thick slice, roast potatoes were nice and crispy with veg booked in butter. the starters and deserts are good quality but small in portions size. The main dish is served on a board ad you have to put your own onto your plate, so you can choose what you like. Overall a nice experience although the venue can get cold so i would suggest something warm to wea. A 10% service charge is added to the bill

The setting is lovely and just what you might expect from a castle. We had a round table which was perfect for our party. Unfortunately the room was cold. We asked for additional heating or the heating to be increased and got a certainly response. Despite this request nothing changed and we noticed as we were leaving the room so they could lay up for dinner that extra heaters were being brought into the room. It therefore felt like we were the poor relations and didn 't deserve the extra heating. The food was average. I have had better afternoon teas in small local cafes. Overall not a good experience and I would not recommend.

I went with my wife for Sunday Lunch having received a gift voucher from a friend. The castle and grounds are beautifully maintained. We arrived a bit early so we’re shown to a lounge where we were brought drinks. From the outset the staff were excellent, friendly and welcoming. We were shown into the dining room which was very nice. We ordered the valoute and ham hock terrine for starters and both were fantastic. The star of the show was the main course of thick cut beef with Yorkshire puds plenty of vegetables, really crispy roast potatoes and a super gravy. It was all piping hot and cooked perfectly. The deserts (lemon meringue cheesecake) were also really good. Throughout the meal we fel...

For dinner, we had pre-ordered the six-course taster menu with wine pairing at a cost of £165 per person. While the food was delicious, there was very little of it and lacked carbohydrates, which was not suitable for my dietary needs as a diabetic. The service, however, was exceptional. On our second night, we opted for the three-course a la carte menu priced at £82 per person. Again, the food was tasty but sparse and not entirely accommodating to my medical condition. Breakfast was served at the table, with a selection from the continental side including cereals, pastries, toast, and fruit, as well as one item from the hot section. We chose the full English breakfast which comprised a saus...

"We booked our family Xmas dinner there was very excited for it tbh , when we arrived the waitresses was friendly and amazing really good staff especially the young girl waiting our table , unfortunately when the food came was very disappointing I think my meat was lamb but the slices was so thin it almost seemed packet store bought again the carrots we had 3 slices very small and not even a quarter of a parsnip and a ball of something. That was mashed and the potatoes was simply lacking the gravy was nice aslo the condiments but then the desserts came and unfortunately followed suit with the sicky toffee pudding was obviously brought in and microwaved and hot held for a long time as there was a layer about the size of the top of my little finger that was hard and dried out basically and to top it off we let the waitress know some was orders with custard as it’s all pre ordered next thing we know the chef was at our table with her back up letting us know we was wrong untill we showed her the order form un professional tbh we was paying up to 30£ per person for this and from a table full of chefs and waitresses stand point never really do reviews but as it’s a lovely place thought needed to be said as a professional you need to hear the negatives to improve otherwise people will say it’s good and never return , bar staff front of house staff 10 out 0f 10 thou"
