"We arrived at the Excelsior after a long day of travel and decided to eat at the hotel rather than go into Venice. Having visited the Excelsior 10 years earlier, we had good memories of dinner out on the patio. Thus, our experience that night was more than a mild disappointment. We were seated immediately at a table along the beach, very nice. Handed menus and then we waited. And waited, and waited until 15 minutes passed and I finally had to grab a waiter to get some attention. Cool, water delivered and a bottle of wine ordered. Five minutes go by, then ten minutes and at 15 minutes I got up and chased down the maitre d ' who eventually brought our wine. If you are not keeping track, that 's 30 minutes from being seated to my swirling the wine, which happened to be very warm. How does an Italian restaurant on the Adriatic store wine at room temperature when it is over 80 degrees? Like heathens, we were forced to ask for ice to cool off the wine. At least my wife and I had plenty to talk about while waiting. We eventually got around to ordering food. The starters were unremarkable and long forgotten. For mains, since my wife does not eat fish, she ordered the beef filet, to be cooked medium. What was delivered could best be described as seared and raw in the middle. She sent it back and it took another 10 minutes to return. In the process, my turbot was cold since I waited for hers to return. The service was possibly the worst we had until I complained, at which point it became average. From the point we sat down, the staff was lavishing the Italian-speaking guests with attention while we, the only apparent Americans, were nearly ignored. Does that sound paranoid? I don 't know but that was my perception. To compound the experience, the prices were ridiculously high for what we received. Between our travels and over 20 years living, working and eating in New York City, we know both quality food and service, including that which comes at a high price. Regrettably, the Ristorante Tropicana offered only one of those three, the expense. I am always willing to say that a restaurant can have a bad night and maybe that was the case here. However, our experiences as guests at the hotel over the next four days suggest that the Tropicana is fading along with the balance of the Excelsior. Very sad given our fond memories from the past. YMMV."

the service was impeccable and the food was prepared professionally. a pianist talked to us when we dictated. the room was small but without feeling to be overcrowded.

ottimo il gambero mazara del vallo come antipasto. presentazione molto speciale per la vite, ravioli ripieni di gamberetti, ottimo riso iodato con vongole e verdure davvero grande!

after a beautiful day in venice is a wonderful opportunity to sit in the terrace of this amazing restaurants and enjoy evening Moroccan minze tee with magnificent tiramisu. soft summer breeze, breathtaking view and a good book.

On our day trip here to see what the excitement was all about we had champagne on the terrace and sadly did not identify anyone we knew!? Ha. Later on we saw many at the event walking in as paying guests. Maybe next time we can get Moet invites. Ver carta

On the terrace of the Excelsior Hotel on the Venetian Lido affording fabulous views over the Adriatic. The menu reads well, with interesting interpretations of traditional dishes and the presentation of same was excellent. Unfortunately nothing had any real flavour and I found myself disappointed following the description and presentation of the courses. There was a selection of wines to choose from under €40 but the bill for two of us still exceeded €200 which could have been better spent across the water in the city. Ver carta

We enjoyed a flawless dining experience at the Tropicana Restaurant Terrace. I ate here nearly 30 years ago and remembered it being such an elegant and beautiful setting , and it lived up to my fond memories! Even the boat ride over from Venice was...beautiful, with the arrival at Lido island being the flower and tree lined highlight. The food was excellent and the service was 5 star. The beachfront setting is romantic and spectacular. We all loved it-our best meal in Italy. Shocked anyone could post a negative review! I will be dreaming of this meal for the next 30 years.

will not be visiting again. Eating was okay, but gritti and danieli were much better. tropicana is now just elimar beach bar (and restaurant) in the first floor of the hotel with an endless back view of cabanas when they are in this type of cache. you wouldn't know...the sea was close if it wasn't for the sound on the other side of the obstacles. I assume it is my fault for planning a jubilee dinner on the basis of the amazing second floor terrace photos that advertised them, the endless beach view and open sky. I have a little less romantic than expected, and it still costs more than 300€. I would like to buy tickets for the empire state building, but instead for a world-class view of the c...
