"Came here with family for some lunch after long walk. We'll start with the place itself: It's lovely. What a fantastic location! The beer garden is perfect and overlooks the reservoir which I bet is lovely at sunset. The actual building is so nicely kept...and is timeless inside. The bar is fantastically furnished and looks great. Our only gripe was the placement of the toilets. The women's is up a very steep flight of stairs but we suspect it is a listed building so it's doubtful anything can be done to rectify that. Moving on to the service. Mixed, very very mixed. We were greeted' by a boy who had a pair of headphones in at the bar. He told us to get a menu and someone would be out to see us. We did as instructed while the boy continued looking at his phone at the bar. We waited about two minutes for a young woman to come and take our order and she was a massive improvement over the boy at the bar. She was polite and very helpful with a family member's allergies which is always a good thing. We placed our food and drink order with her and she relayed it to the boy on the bar. Took him minutes to do drinks. We were sat near the bar so we could clearly see the bar wasn't busy, he seemed more bothered about whatever was on his phone than anything else which reflects really badly on such a lovely little place. When the boy had finished the drinks he plonked them in front of us with little care and left us to make up our mind which drink was which (also left us to get our own beer mats which we thought was pretty lazy). Moving onto the food: it's nothing short of fantastic. We ordered a fish and chips, steak pie, meat and potato pie and a mini meat and potato pie. It all tastes fantastic and came out piping hot. It also came pretty quickly too (about mins) which was fantastic. The girl from earlier who brought the food was really lovely and polite and came to check back on the table to make sure everything was ok. We only regret that we didn't have room for dessert. Food was quite pricey but it was of really great quality so no complaints at all there. We were brought the bill promptly after asking for it. Total came to just over for four people with one round of drinks. The drinks were really quite pricey and that was our only real issue with what was being served. Overall; fantastic food and, bar the boy on the bar, really quite lovely staff. We saw other members of staff ferrying food and they all came across as polite and attentive. We will certainly be coming back, we just hope we're served by a better bar man next time."

The woman who took our order wore glasses with a yellow arm to them. Scoffed when we asked for a decaf tea and was really rude, awful attitude and spoilt our visit. Shame as all the young waiters were working hard. Won’t be visiting again. Ver carta

We visited here yesterday after a long walk around the resevoir! It was really busy, but we found a table outside and ordered drinks with the pleasant bar staff at the table so its not neccessary to go inside unless you want to. The...food that was coming out of the kitchen looked really appetising and smealt delicious so I think next time we go we shall plan to have something to eat.

Been here often for drinks outside after walking with the dog and food always looked good. Booked a table for today re Covid, distancing good and staff all wearing masks but most importantly the food was absolutely gorgeous. I had chicken dinner my husband roast...beef dinner then although we were full we were tempted with deserts, I had sticky toffee pudding my husband apple crumble pie. The staff were all lovely and the atmosphere in the pub just perfect. Will definitely be back and a big thank you to all the staff

We stopped at the Waggon and Horses after a walk around Langsett reservoir. The pub is in a beautiful spot overlooking the reservoir and the COVID adjustments have been done well with tables, ordering and service all being delivered outdoors. However, unfortunately the food was...not good. We had a meat potato pie and a sausage and onion sandwich with a side of fries. The pie was a generous portion but tasteless and presentation was poor. The sandwich was very disappointing and poor value for money one sausage on a hot dog bun served alone on an empty plate not even a salad garnish to go with it. The fries were very dry and also pretty tasteless. Ver carta

The moment we walked in we knew we would not be staying to eat..there was a funny smell about the place..but because I had a long drive to meet family I was ready for a nice hot cuppa..the welcome we received from the woman (management)...we presumed was not very inviting at all..Even though it said dog friendly she made us feel like we had broken rules by bringing him with us...our dog is a most delightful and pleasant dog you could ever wish to meet..he never ever shows off or barks at other dogs but he was not happy we believe he picked up on what we thought too...not a nice place..or nice people..dogs are clever and know when something is a miss..so glad we left..we could not have eaten...

First visit and last From the moment we walked through the door we weren’t impressed fusty smell like old carpets bad fish smell . We should have walked straight back out but as we had booked a table and family had travelled...far to meet up we sat at our table checked out the menu The lady who served our drinks gave off bad vibes, made us feel very unwelcome (don’t think she liked the fact we had a dog) There was an oppressive atmosphere about the place even the dog couldn’t settle We decided to leave rather than eat there the same lady wasn’t happy when we said we weren’t staying, she huffed at us and walked away We went directly across the road to a lovely cheerful cafe and had very frien...
