"This restaurant is away from the central part of Bern. It is an attractive appearing restaurant, it has a staff that is very welcoming and the food is great. We enjoyed our first night at this restaurant so much that we returned the next night. The menu has a wide variety of options. My friend enjoys liver and was surprised to find it on the menu. She found the meal was cooked to perfection. However there were a number of other items on the menu that she would have wanted to try. This was the clincher to return the next night. The first evening I had shrimp and salmon risotto. I enjoyed the attractiveness of the offering and the satisfaction I had with it. The second night we both had the perch. It was nicely done and presented. If we were longer in Berne, I am sure my friend would have wanted to return a third time to try another offering that had appeal to her. If you enjoy Italian cooking, you will enjoy what El Gusto offers"

"I had to leave a review to share my experience with the people I believe are the owners of the restaurant. We were in Bern with my father desperately looking for the Bern train station, late at night, to pick up my mom after she had travelled a nightmare journey of delayed, then rerouted flights, a cancelled bus ride and finally a train. We stopped by Boky restaurant to ask for directions and it appeared it was closing time. The woman I asked jumped towards me and helpfully gave me directions. We ended up finding my mom and finally got into our car. As we 're leaving the parking we hear a car horn behind us. The car passed us up and it was the same woman with (I 'm assuming) her husband checking to see if we 'd found our way around. I thanked her and said we 'd finally managed to find my mom. So she said oh your mom is here! Wait I have something for you she went to her car and gave us a huge box of 20 packs of Toblerone chocolate. We were so stunned by how kind and wonderful these people were. I 've rarely come across someone this kind and generous and just willing to help. If you really were the owners of this restaurant and are reading this, please accept our most heartfelt thank you for your incredible generosity."

"Ich und meine Freundin haben am 7.1.2020 am Abend Pasta mach Hause bestellt.Der Lieferant brachte das Essen an die falsche Adresse, wir sahen ihn aber vom Balkon aus (kann ja mal passieren).Das wäre dan der Moment indem jeder andere zum Telefon greift und und kontaktiert um nachzufragen wo genau der Eingang ist.Dies tat er aber nicht er fuhr wieder weg und wir mussten im Restaurant anrufen um nachzufragen wo der Herr mit unserem Nachtessen hin will.Nach ca 6 7 Minuten hat er doch noch die Idee gehabt uns anzurufen Nach knapp 5 Minuten klarem erklären wie und wo er hinfahren soll, hat er es geschafft und das Essen zu liefern.Es gab kein Entschuldigung nein er wollte uns Pizzen geben obschon er 10 Sekunden vorher mein Geld entgegen nahm und selbst erwähnte: 2 mal Pasta.Das Essen war logischerweise nicht annähernd warm und somit auch sehr trocken nicht lecker.Jeder hat mal einen schlechten Tag aber sowas akzeptiere ich definitiv nicht für 40. !War leider das letzte Mal Vapiano bestellen."

"Extensive menu and I was really disappointed that I couldnt have a meal here as had already eaten at a Pizzeria down the road. So we figured we’d grab a coffee and a creme brûlée here. I asked the female waiter and she directed me to a tall, middle aged brown guy. No response to my “hello”, no niceties exchanged which was probably my first and only ‘unfriendly’ experience during my entire stay in Switzerland. His response to me “do we have creme brulee” my response “yes it's on your menu”. He seemed so disinterested to even respond. I get it if you've run out of an item or no longer offering it but there's a better way of responding to enquiring customers. Zero on customer service skills. People like him should just quit the service industry. From all the reviews ive read the food is at best sub-par so im not sure why he has such a stiff attitude. He really left a sour lasting impression on my last day in Switzerland. Im sure hes the one responding to reviews in a sarcastic manner with zero relevance to the review itself which further explains the massive chip he has on his shoulder."

"Located in the railway building, this restaurant offers a self-service buffet. As I went there, most option were vegan and clearly labeled. You take your food from the buffet, go to a counter (friendly staff, explained everything very patiently), and put your plate on a scale. I was a little astonished by the price. For Switzerland it is moderate, even not very affordable. But if you 're from a foreign country, be careful how much you put on your plate. The food was really tasty and was made of fresh ingredients, often with a oriental touch. Some dishes were warm, others cold, a small bread is included. All in all I enjoyed my short stay there. The only thing I would complain is the atmosphere, especially outside. You 're sitting right next to a street, the building itself is pretty ugly, and so on. That 's maybe not a fault of the restaurant, but in consequence of that there 's a lack of atmosphere."

"For many years we used to go to the Restaurant next door, but this has now unfortunately closed down, so we decided to give Santa Lucia a try. Our visit went off to a rocky start, a Manager or Waiter told us quite rudely that since we did not have a reservation, there was no space for us, and he ushered us out of his way. We were a bit stunned by his treatment and were just left standing. The same person came back a short while later and mumbled that he could make space for us, and then guided us to a table at the rear, which was perfectly fine for us. Somebody else then came and greeted us warmly, taking our orders. The food was not disappointing either, we were well pleased at the quality and presentation of the main courses that we had ordered. So much so, that we even ordered a Dessert, which is not something that we normally do. To sum it up, if we disregard the entrance episode, the food and service were great, and we will come back, perhaps with a reservation next time."

"I ordered all 3 burger menus as take away. No.1 The pulled beef burger was excellent, just what you would expect from a pulled beef. But the other 2 burgers were bad. No.2 The Wagyu Burger had no sauce and minimal cheese that you couldn't even taste it, even though it was a Bernese Küssli. In addition, some of the meat was so burnt that it was bitter and dry. This burger with fries was 42 francs, which is completely exaggerated considering the minimalist portion of fries. #3 The cheese burger was not balanced at all, the raclette cheese was way too bitter for the chipotle sauce, which was too sour. It generally had a strange taste. But what disappointed me the most was the amount of fries they gave us. I ordered a portion of pulled beef fries as an addition, but I have never seen such a small portion of fries for this price. That's just a disgrace, I spent a total of 119 francs for the 3 burger menus and an additional portion of pulled beef fries. Which, in my opinion, is far too expensive. This is the first and last time I eat at Beef."

"We went there for a birthday dinner, and the overall experience was disappointing. The shared salad bowl was tasty and fresh. The vegetarian dish hiwever had dry pieces of polenta, with overall little flavor and lack of some sauce to make it more interesting. We thought the daily fish plate was very expensive at CHF48, considering the somewhat pedestrian peas and mushroom veggies that came with it. Our server was curt to the point of being unfriendly, never came by to ask if we wanted another glass of wine, and no thank you or good by when we left. Considering the price point of the place not very satisfying."

I really liked the beer though and service was very nice and patient. Mayonnaise 1/5."

"We sampled some local cuisine of homemade sausages with steamed veg. We shared an entree a platter of meats and cheeses. 2 beers (1 x 500ml and one 300ml). 2 glasses of wine. Service was very friendly. Waiter helpful. The food was average. Tasty enough but nothing special and certainly not worth the cost. The bill was 116.60 swiss franc. That might be OK if you are Swiss or from the USA, but it represented for us average fare at AUD170. Having just spent 5 weeks in Italy where our exchange rate is even worse, we have felt it more here in Switzerland due to the poor value proposition. IE: prices of everything are inflated beyond the level of quality delivered. A coffee in Italy is €1 3, but here it is CHF 5 6. A bottle of water in the eurozone is €1 2, but in Switzerland I have paid CHF 3 6. We had hotdogs on the waterfront at Luzern today and they were tasty (CHF7 each). Back to this restaurant simple, home style meal, just not memorable. It is what we would find in a country pub at home."

"My first time at Papa Joe in Bern. Went there for my Friends Birthday last Saturday. Beautifully decorated but a little bit dissappointed with everything else. Been to other Papa Joe's before. Nothing to complain. The Location looks very good and well decorated. The Toilet smells very bad. It stinks of pee like it hasnt been clean for months. I went there to wash my hands but couldnt stay longer than a couple sec. The chrispy Chicken Wings we got served was all almost completely burned /overcooked darkbrown/black. We didn't want to throw it away or complain then but for the price we have paid i should have complained. It shouldn't have been served in the first place when it looks almost black. Other than that the Fries and other Food we have ordered were well done and delicious. The Panache should have been half/half but it was very little to almost no beer in it. I like sweet but 8.50 for a little sweet soda with so little beer was too much. So that could be improved as well. Sorry but this is an honest review."

"we have here for an evening meal in the hope for a good typical Swiss dinner and we have! very well located and with super nice and friendly staff. the eating was local and there was a good choice to choose dressed, nevertheless. the quality of it was really high and, even after eating much, you liked felt good and not overwhelmed, how often in other restaurants where the quality is not the best. the only problem is the crazy high prices, but I know is so everywhere in the Swiss, so in consideration of the quality when comparing it with local trips is a good price, but crazy expensive to my standards from the Swiss (we had an appetizer, two main courses, a bottle of water, a glass wein and a beer: all only for the bottle water was just one idea to give). as always, if they are here and they are looking for a typical place to have a beautiful meal and time, definitely recommend to stop by."
