"Booked a 7pm table on Sunday 23rd October as a birthday treat for my partner. Ordered beef roast and sole as both were on the menu with a red wine to go with the beef. Neither were available and ended up with chicken and chicken...pie! Red wine with chicken would not be my first choice. Food eventually arrived over 40 mins later and it was good. Complained to the manager who was very aggressive and unsympathetic, not even the simplest of apology and I was not rude or offensive. If I had known I couldn't get the food we wanted I would have gone elsewhere. Check they have what you want!!!!"

"We truly enjoy fine dining that doesn’t come with a pretentious vibe, and The Carpenters Arms was perfect for us! The food was outstanding – this place deserves recognition, perhaps even a nod from *MasterChef: The Professionals*. Some of our highlights from the meal included the satay sauce with the chicken croquettes, the confit duck leg paired with potato terrine on the duck breast dish, the crab tart, the homemade bread with butter, the truffle fries, and the delicious carrot cake for dessert. I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions, and we will definitely return to explore their seasonal menus, lunch options, and afternoon tea. Thank you so much for a truly memorable meal!"

"A beautiful old building (as most in this town). As a pub it’s not at all bad, as a hotel it leaves a lot to be desired. Our room (Signet) was damp and noisy with the constant drone of either a large extractor fan or washing machine downstairs more akin to a New York apartment than a quiet country pub. Bed was small (fair enough it’s a small room) but not particularly comfortable. The main problem was the attitude of the staff. I was told at check in breakfast finished at 10. When I arrived downstairs at 0950 I was told it finished at 0930. While I was staying I smashed my head badly on a very low door frame. These are normal in such old buildings in England. It was my fault of course, and it is marked with a very small label “Mind your head” but it was so hard a knock I ended up on the floor. That day I was headed to a wedding but had to leave due to the earlier knock as I wasn’t 100% When the next morning I was asked for details so they could complete the accident book, when I suggested that it needs a strip of yellow warning tape so it’s more noticeable her (Rebecca Riley the managers) response was an irritated and patronising “It does have a label and that is all that is required by law”. When I pointed out that while that may be the case I would expect that she might be more focused on firstly my welfare and secondly that of her future guests rather than simply what the most basic requirements by law are, she looked at me with disdain. Won’t be staying again, not because of low doorframes but because a general lack of attention to detail and this attitude which was entirely unnecessary. It was the same about the breakfast: I explained I was told by the staff the day before it was 10, she said “Well it’s here on the clipboard the booking times”. I said I believed her but the point was it was not what I was told. This is not what a great customer experience looks like. Good points were that food was OK, it’s a great location and the room had an excellent power shower and good water temperatures. I want to add that when one of the Cleaners heard/saw the accident happen, she was most sympathetic and asked repeatedly if she could do anything a better example of customer care than her boss."

"Very disappointed. I have Indian food regularly and this was one of the most tasteless ones I have had in a while. Maybe it was just a one off bad evening. The waiting staff OK but not over helpful asked for some tap water and it came 10 minutes later, replaced cutlery clumsily placed on table, not a smile in sight. Atmoshere in the room upstairs was non existent. And to top it all one has to pay Burford prices. Food: 1"

"Lovely pub, great decor and kindly allowed us to stay overnight in our camper van! We came for a roast dinner but unfortunately the meal was cold but there was no problem then giving us another! I asked for more gravy as was charged £1.50 for the smallest gravy boat and this something I’ve never been charged extra for, oh well you live and learn and we then fancied cheese and biscuits after our main! There was as a choice of 4 cheeses but you had to pay anything from £4.50-£6.50 if memory serves me right) for a 50g slice, so making your cheese board for one almost £20! Riley the drinks and bar manager agreed the price was over the top so kindly said he’d do us a cheese board for £10, he returned to say the owner refused point blank for us to have it at that price! This I felt undermined the managers decision, and I felt it should have been honoured as offered and the owner to speak to the manager after if he wasn’t happy about this! This let the whole experience down and sadly we won’t be returning! Riley your doing a fantastic job but I feel your voice won’t be heard"

"We had a mini honeymoon here recently and was warmly welcomed from day one, dog friendly too as we had our two dogs. Food was fantastic. Rooms warm, clean and comfortable. Staff so hospitable and friendly. Would recommend here ten times over! Definitely would return. Thank you for our wonderful stay."

"On a warm Sunday afternoon I decided to treat my wife to a cream tea at The Lamb, as advertised on their website. We found a table in the lounge but when I tried to order at the bar I was told they were too busy to serve 'walk-ins. ' We recently stayed for two nights at The Hare and Hounds, Westonbirt, another hotel in the group, and were not entirely satisfied. We live in Burford and have celebrated anniversaries, birthdays etc at The Lamb over many years. It is sad to see that a hotel group renowned for good service has now been taken over by a faceless company that teaches their staff to call customers 'walk-ins ' to their face. ."

"Lovely pub. Staff very friendly and helpful. The reason not 5 stars is because I ordered the bacon and goat cheese and red onion baguette But I got given the chicken bacon and mayonnaise. Was OK but not what I ordered. And the chips was amazing. I didn't say anything as staff were so friendly and didn't want to get anyone into trouble. Wheelchair accessibility: We had two mobility scooters a pram and an assistance dog. The young lady came and put ramp out for us and then helped us get scooters out after lunch. Thank you."

"We had a lovely lunch here today with very good intrusive service. Really lovely old pub, bet it's lovely when the open fire is going or it's dressed for Christmas Walkability: It's possible to park right outside with a flat walk into the pub. To get to the disabled loo from inside it's up and down stairs, but you can get to the loo from around the corner which is a flat walk. Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Great value"

"The room was overpriced, with worn-out furniture and a non-working radiator. There was no hot water, and the bathtub had a leak. I also didn’t receive the 10% discount on food and drinks that I was promised. The staff was decent, but they weren't very attentive."

"After a disappointing journey into green and pleasant tea room (closed) and coffee house (from vegan cake, ice and milk apart from a coconut muffin) we were very happy to find huffkins. we asked at the bar what was vegan and were informed that they had a sausage bap, heifer and blueberry muffin, 2 zimt drall art cake and skorn with jam. not all these were labeled with vegan, so I recommend the request. we went for the creamtee and although smaller than their non- vegan counterparts were the scones were beautiful and we were supplied with margarine instead of butter."

"First time I have been to The Swan at Swinbrook and I would definitely go again. The food was delicious and the staff were efficient and friendly. One suggestion, whilst I am a huge fan of dogs and I have one myself, there was a dog in the restaurant that barked consistently throughout our meal which led us to leave earlier than we would have done normally, whilst I appreciate this is not The Swan’s fault I don’t think it would have been unreasonable to ask the owner to take the dog out for a while until it settled down or put it in the car (as long as this didn’t cause stress to the dog). It is difficult for diners to thoroughly enjoy a meal with a dog constantly barking And I noted other diners getting irritated also. I would however come back again and hope there wasn’t another barking dog!"

"We placed our orders for food and drinks, and they arrived promptly thanks to the excellent service from the friendly and welcoming staff. When our meal arrived, I must say, the portion sizes were generous and certainly worth the price. I had the chili and cheese jacket potatoes, which were delicious. Personally, I would have preferred a bit of butter on the potato before adding the filling, but that’s just my taste—it was still very enjoyable. Like all the buildings in this delightful Cotswold town, the atmosphere inside was quaint and inviting, making it a great stop if you’re feeling a bit hungry."
