"Thought I'd try this place a go with my friend. We both ordered spaghetti carbonara.... Sauce was horrible and runny. Garlic bread was extremely thick and stodgy, was bigger than the plate itself. Obviously cheap cubes of chicken, several pieces including some chopped up bacon... more than the meal itself!! Pay £17.50 for this dish you'd expect much better quality, tasted super cheap and chef hasn't put much thought into it, just pure laziness! Shocking!! We got served by this young girl as a waitress, yes I know she asked how our meal was but that was right at the beginning when we didn't have a chance! Me and my friend decided after a few mouthfuls how poor our meal was. I didn't eat it all, I did eat all of that pasta because I was starving and my friend barely had half. I left a lot of the chicken, bacon and sauce behind as well as the super stodgy garlic bread. When the young girl took our plates at the end, she asked how the meal was and my friend said we weren't impressed with the sauce. The young waitress was incredibly rude and passive aggressive, made it clear she was peeved off with us. She had a go because we didn't say at the beginning, well yeah because we were barely into a meal! I'm so annoyed how she reacted, my friend was just telling the truth politely and she was so horribly rude, really not acceptable! Never had such an expierence in my life whilst going out for meals out! The waitress didn't apologise, didn't pass anything on and walked off in a huff. Disgusting behaviour. We payed a lot of money for this as well, not happy with meal and service."

"Our middle son and his family turned up unexpectedly this Sunday and so we decided to go out locally for Sunday lunch. Being such short notice all our usual haunts were fully booked and we didn’t want to go into Chester itself. The only place we could find locally for a traditional Sunday roast was the Piper. Our past experience of the Piper as a pub rather than a restaurant over the last 40 years we have lived in the area was not good. However we’ve noticed it’s been refurbished relatively recently so we decide to risk it. Glad we did. The roast was really excellent, well cooked, good quality tasty ingredients with an unbelievable amount of different vegetables. The prawn and wings starters were good as well. The staff were good efficient and friendly the refurb has also made for a comfortable environment. Value is good too. It’s a four not a five for two issues. One my wife who had the steak pie liked the pastry but thought it should have had more steak. Two the billing doesn’t allow you to put tips on the card, you can only give cash tips. The management needs to sort this fit the benefit of their excellent staff because most people don’t carry much cash with them these days. The Piper should have been full today like all the other local traditional restaurants around here. The fact it wasn’t was our luck. This restaurant certainly on the basis of its Sunday Lunch offering deserves support. In this day and age if you don’t use it you lose it and I think the Piper deserves a better fate."
