"I went to this restaurant alone for lunch and a beer. The ale was excellent, clear, and delicious. The food was reasonably priced and of good quality, and the staff were very friendly. The atmosphere was pleasant, with several regular customers chatting at the bar. The restaurant is an old-fashioned pub, supposedly the oldest in Chesterfield, and could use some refurbishment; some of the benches were ripped and the toilet floor was uneven and old, but this added to its charm. Unfortunately, a rude and unpleasant man insisted on sitting next to me because it was "his" seat, even though there were plenty of other seats available. He threw his rubbish on my table and stared at me until I left, which reminded me of working men's clubs in the 70s. This may not have been appreciated by everyone, but for me, it was all part of the experience and not really the pub's fault. If you enjoy traditional pubs or history, this is a great place to visit. However, if you prefer chain pubs or wine bars, it may not be the right fit for you."
