"Whilst working for a Visually Impaired (VI) Charity, I took one of my VI Students to the café (in an emergency situation) to access the toilets. I did notice the sign stating 'customer toilets ' however my VI student was unable to read this, and we sadly did not have time to explain our reasons on entering, as my focus was to reach the toilet asap. On exiting, we were confronted by an extremely rude, aggressive, and intimidating waiter (small stature with short hair), who cornered us in the doorway and was exhibiting very angry gestures and unfriendly body language. He did not allow us to explain ourselves and did not want to listen to our motives. This experience was extremely negative for my student and caused a very high level of anxiety. As a VI charity our main aim is to instil confidence and independence in our students and to build self-advocacy skills, as well as trusting in the general public for help. This negative experience was the exact opposite of what I was aiming to achieve and could have serious mental health implications, affecting learning going forward. I would NEVER step foot in this café EVER AGAIN and I advise others to stay away. Interestingly and sadly this experience does not sound like an isolated incident when reading other 'bad ' reviews, stating the same involvements with the word 'rude ' coming up every time and focusing on one waiter in particular!!! Please educate yourself and your staff around inclusivity and understanding disabilities (whether seen or hidden) and show some human decency and look up the word 'empathy! '"

"Popped in for lunch with my wife and daughter on Saturday. Oh dear, what a dreadful mistake! It 's been ages since we came here, but I had always been a fan of all Vintage Inns but now I would think twice about any, and certainly won 't be back to the Bay Horse. After waiting ages for the food (about an hour and it wasn 't busy at all), we were served;Rump Steak Sandwich the steak was cold, pea shoot garnish was withered and drying up, looking like a pile of weeds after a day 's gardening. The steak was tough and chewy not overcooked just poor quality. The chips were hot, suggesting to me that they had somehow forgot them and that the sandwich had gone cold whilst they cooked the chips. Incidentally, we had wanted chunky chips but were only offered chips or salad so ended up with skinny fries.Fish Finger Sandwich again, the fish goujons were cold and the garnish was, well, dead! In addition, the goujons were really oily suggesting the fryer was not hot enough when they were cooked, but the chips were hot.Kids pasta a very small and boring portion of penne pasta with a bit of tomato sauce. The garlic flatbread was OK but overall this was not a suitable dish for an 8 year old, and very poor value at £5.We complained about the sandwiches being cold and the response was underwhelming. Did we want something else? We were assured that the sandwiches had come straight from the kitchen and hadn 't been sitting around blatantly untrue!Having wasted an hour and a half, and with a hungry (but patient) 8 year old to keep happy, we were not in a position to walk out let alone order again, so we finished our meal and when we went to pay received no apology.Looking around at the décor, this pub had gone from shabby chic to just shabby Afterwards my wife suffered from the oily food and felt queasy for what was left of our afternoon. In hindsight we would have received better food and service in the restaurant next door McDonalds! (and I am not a fan of that place)Really shocked..."

Harts Head

"We had bookings for days at Harts Head. We were supposed to have a meal on the June which would have been our visit. This had to be cancelled by our close friend John Piggin. This came about from us making a...visit to Harts Head for a drink after a meal elsewhere as hart head is local to where we were staying and on previous occasions we enjoyed the hospitality. But during Thursday evening, we had noticed just before shutters internally came down, front door to establishment was shut too. We managed to enter the back door. Once the running management noticed how we entered, aaran was fuming and told staff to shut the back door. When our friend John and my husband went to the bar to order drinks, both could see that they looked displeased. My husband asked are you open, one of the managers behind the bar said, we are closed but you can have a quick drink. From that moment it had escalated as we were uncomfortable and cost of drinks and having to rush our costly drinks was not what we expected after annual visits and previous visits in that week. Aaran had only said the evening we had a meal and stayed abd continued to purchase drinks from the bar area, said i wish more people would come in for a drink. I will say one thing, compliments to the chef!!!! So thus is why we returned thursday evening and spend time drinking in the bar area, helps due to loss of earnings after Covid. How the management did not want us there, aaran spoke quite rudely to our close friend John Piggin and he spoke was really dreadful and you would not expect this behaviour in an establishment as the harts head. We all decided quickly drink up and cancel friday nights meal. We got a booking for friday at the Craven Arms at very short notice. Hospitality at Craven Arms Extremely accommodating the male manager. I cannot refer by name, cannot remember but he was absolutely brilliant and opposite to arran at harts head. Just like to point out there were a few guests in the harts head who heard everything. Felt so sorry for some of the staff working under this management regime( very military like) We drank up quickly, cancelled booking for under name of Mr Piggin and walked out. If harts head look up each year booking under surname Mr Piggin, you'll know what you have lost."
