"We were really looking forward to having our first night out as a couple in a very long time! We were given a dining out card as a Christmas gift and decided we would use the green man as the first time using a vintage inn. Really sorry to say, but this place needs an awful lot of work! It was very very quiet which usually means good service in most places. However, not the case here. As I am currently trying to eat healthy, I’d already decided what I was going to order prior to arrival after checking on the website. However, it was kindly explained to me by the waitress (I think the only time we saw her) that you couldn’t remove a sauce from a meal as no food is prepared fresh, it is pre-portioned first thing in the morning and reheated throughout the day so I cannot remove the sauce from any meal. However, a female manager did then by chance ask if we were okay and she explained that we would be able to have the sauce on the side. However, all of this was irrelevant as when I saw another table the fishcakes the sauce comes on the side anyway, not the best start. The starters were pretty mediocre, just deep fried stuff, but hey it’s not high end prices so you can live with it. Not sure why with no need to cook anything they took so long. This was the first time we saw the cook, a young girl with long dark hair, casually strolling through the restaurant in a uniform that looked like it hadn’t been washed in a week, playing on her phone and running her hands through her hair, I’d bet any amount of money they weren’t washed before back on the microwaves and deep fryers. The waitress did show up for the second and last time to remove the starter plates with a ‘How was it’ comment. This now became more of a comedy night than a meal out. Our hair playing cook then sent out the mains, and if you’ve ever seen that episode of friends where Chandler lives with the crazy guy that dehydrates everything, well I assume he was the 2nd cook. Have a look a the Brocolli served with the fish cakes. It is genuinely funny! We couldn’t complain, there was nobody about anymore. Oh other than when we finished the illusive waitress appeared from nowhere quicker than the flash super hero to clear a nearby table, I then realised it was because they’d been silly enough to leave a tip on the table. Of which she didn’t bother to wipe once she’d banked the cash. The manager lady did come and eventually take our plates, not asking how anything was, so I quickly asked if the broccoli was meant to be like that. She answered no, and did offer to remove my meal from the bill, it’s a shame because if there had been some sort of check back I wouldn’t have left hungry. So we waited for the bill… and waited… the manager lady had disappeared… the waitress (and I use this term tongue in cheek) was busy on her knees taking through the host stand to a regular drinker, as the other manager (make) in a check shirt walked around the bar on his phone when he wasn’t having banter with drinkers. This isn’t a real restaurant, I wouldn’t bother going if you’ve bothered to get to the end of this long review. I’d imagine this review will only get read by people currently in the restaurant waiting for their mains. If that’s you… get ready for disappointment."

"Having arrived home from holiday abroad we thought we would re-visit a pub for lunch we hadn’t been to for a while and make the most of our time off before going back to work. BIG MISTAKE. Overseas not only do you get a warm sun but also a warm welcome, table service and great food at decent prices. When we arrived we ordered drinks a pint and a glass of wine for £12 something! and told that the tills were not open so they could only take cards. No deal breaker but a bit annoying. We asked for a menu and were told where they were and advised to order at the bar with a table number when ready. I get that this is the British way but it’s rubbish. Tell diners to sit and you’ll be over in a moment to take their order – it’s 2023 and times are hard to these places should be upping their game to look after and retain customers. We chose the fish and chips £17.50! and a “Applewood cheese apple chutney” sandwich £8 . Sounds lovely, I thought. The better half went to the bar to order we were sitting outside enjoying the sunshine and I asked that if there was a choice i’d prefer crusty white doorstop bread or French stick but ok with a decent granary. After all this was “Applewood cheese apple chutney”. The ale I ordered was very cloudy but I couldn’t bothered to moan – I was still on holiday and in a good mood. The wine was apparently quite nice but the price was on par of a half litre of the decent local wine we’d just returned from. The food arrived in a good time but without cutlery, but we were told where it was before the young lady used her initiative and said she would bring us some. At last some kind of “service”! Now to the food. The fish and chips certainly looked impressive. Very large fish and decent looking ships. Thankfully the slimmer end of the fish was good. However, with the thicker parts the batter was undercooked so doughy and the fish a bit watery. Not what you would expect for £17.50. However, this was trumped by the cheese sandwich that came up on a small plate and consisted of two thin slices of supermarket sliced bread cut into quarters with a filling of grated cheese and some gloopy stuff. It did have a few green leaves on the side, to be fair. But for eight quid I and I think most would have expected more. I’m not usually shy of complaining when it’s due but didn’t want to cause trouble for the young girl serving and thought I would contact the company directly. I emailed the Director of Pubs at Shepherd Neame to complain instead and provided a photo of the very offending cheese sandwich. In his reply Director of Pubs who, apprently, i can't name but will know who he is did “wholeheartedly agree” and said it was “well below” their standards. An offer of a meal voucher was offered and, having enjoyed days and nights there before and believing in second chances, accepted the offer. That was on 25th May. Over a month later I am yet to hear anything. Whilst I am happy to give a second chance to a place that makes the effort and genuinely wants to offer an apology and welcome customers back, I think my business here is done. At a time when many businesses are struggling places like this should be going that extra mile to ensure everything is tip top or more so. And when they get something wrong they should be putting it right. Quickly. With so many pubs closing at a fast rate it’s a shame that the Manor Farm Barn is still open when so many other, better places have been forced to close."

"We booked a table for 2 pm on 29th oct, was greeted warmly and shown to our table,we ordered drinks, i had a very watery tasteless coffee, but i let that go, we then ordered our meals, and waited...... and waited, we had not ordered anything exotic, just a couple of roasts and a Childrens meal, it took an hour to produce the said meals, and they were not worth the wait, they must have been standing for an age ,waiting to be served,as they were stone cold, the roast potatoes were frozen ones, as so were the yorkshire puddings, what sort of restaurant doesn 't cook them fresh?.And relies on Aunt Bessie ? Even my grandaughter left her fries as they were like rubber and cold. The waitresses were ran ragged, trying to keep up with the tables around us, hence the fact the food was allowed to stand and get cold.my granddaughter saw one of the chefs , i use that term lightly , picking up potatoes , with his hands and putting them on plates. My son talked me out of calling a manager,as we were already running late due to the time taken to get our food, so i contacted Beefeater with my experience as soon as i got home, and as to date i have heard nothing, i even filled out a survey they emailed me saying they hoped i enjoyed my meal, again no response , hopefully it will be picked up here and they can tell me if cold, reheated frozen food is something they are happy to serve, £54 down the drain"

"Wedding reception venue simply wonderful We booked this venue late in the spring, a month or two before the wedding day. We did not expect the organisation and dedication that became obvious as soon as we turned up for the day. This lovely group of ladies delivered a smooth and hiccup less afternoon and evening. The table and room dressing was set up beautifully. We were able to bring a little blue tooth stereo to run our two play lists from and a couple of lights. We had a seated party for 50 dining in the main and over 100 in attendance for the buffet and evening do that went on until 11pm. The starters and main courses were simply delicious, there was not a single complaint and the buffet saw people taking sandwiches, samosa's home with them, as well as the sweet treats. We used the garden and the orangery as our wedding platform, great to see the kids running around out back and so many tables, chairs, and parasols for shade. My only suggestion for improvement, and this is being picky, is perhaps a 2nd AC machine in the orangery as this is such an excellent sun trap. This venue and indeed service was excellent value for money so we left a nice tip, the least we could do in the circumstances. We were able to say thank you to the chef and staff before we left, but it is very hard to convey what a splendid job they did in making our day really stress free and special. I could not recommend this venue enough. Only 1 photo attached due to lack of photographer at the reception just to illustrate the open feel and lay out."
