"Unfortunately we had an appalling experience. Terrible service, very long waits on food and drinks and it wasn't even busy. We had to repeatedly get up and go and remind staff we were waiting on drinks and then food. The waiter couldn't remember our order, but seemed to insist on not writing anything down and we had to keep correcting him on what we wanted. After nearly a 1 hour wait he came to ask again if it was the chicken I wanted and I said for the 3rd time, no the salmon, he had to admit he had told the kitchen the wrong order and re ordered my salmon so there would be a further delay. As someone who rarely complains and has a chef in the family, so I understand hospitality, we were shocked by how bad our experience was. The food was, thank god, ok and we did eat it, well we were very hungry by this point. They did slightly reduce the bill on account of delays and bad service we'd received, but only because i asked, and to be honest, they didn't seem embarrassed or bothered about it either. They seemed disinterested and disorganised. Oh, and to top it all off, 2 hours after finally eating my long awaited Tuscan Salmon, I spent the following two hours on the toilet at home with terrible stomach cramps and diarrhoea!! I will be contacting the manager. And just so any of you reading this know, I very, very rarely leave a review for anything, but this was so bad, I just had to. We live locally, but won't be returning obviously, such a shame. Faulty Towers springs to mind."

"We have stayed here previously and enjoyed ourselves with our son, we saw then it was tired but a beautiful building. We booked to come back , which was then cancelled last minute with no explanation..saying it was not COVID related. We were told we would receive a call enabling us to rebook. This didn’t happen, so I decided to rebook through their website.I had sent previous emails and phone calls and messages, which were unreturned.Eventually I go through to Rohan…who explained they were now only open Thursday -Sunday because of COVID..although no explanation of no returned emails and messages. I got one back eventually confirming the booking relating to an extra bed required for our son. It’s a fabulous building it really is…peacocks greeted us on arrival and the entrance and ground floor are very pretty and in keeping with the style and era.The evening meal and breakfast were very good, and the staff lovely…I’m not sure if it’s in different management hands now…Had some drinks..had a walk around the gardens and church..very quiet and relaxed..very niceThe negatives are the rooms…..dated..old..patched up..disguising old frayed chairs with throws…. Random dated pictures and mirrors…ahhhh..such a shame..dried flowers in a vase ….No hot water..which was not a problem..no available fans in extreme heat…and half a loo roll between us…My sons pull out bed had a dirty mattress….I just felt like taking everything down and stripping it back to how it could be..amazing..it wouldn’t take too much..just a bit of vision …I was reluctant to put on this review..but I hope the staff can give this amazing place a face lift particularly in the bedrooms….bin the tackiness and give it back a bit of what it deserves We did enjoy our stay….just could have been fabulous with some careThank you"

"2 of us booked as I heard it was nice and was really looking forward to trying here. We had 3 courses each and I was starving, my first 2 courses were fine, good pub grub. I ordered the sweet off the specials and unfortunately it was off, rancidly off. When they put it in front of me I could smell a horrible smell, I honestly didn’t think it would be the sweet so decided to try it, I had to spit it out. I could only describe the taste and smell as out of date cottage cheese and that is being polite. I did make the owner/manager aware and he took it away. He came back to say he had tasted it and it was fine, I explained it really wasn’t and even the smell was stomach wrenching but he continued to dispute this. His attitude wasn’t nice if I am honest. I was polite and discreet. Although he did not charge for the sweet I would suggest that maybe how he deals with customers and how he makes them feel should be addressed. I never, ever complain but when something is as off as this was I really do not expect the manager/owner to come out seem argumentative and then say there was nothing wrong with this. I just hope the sweet was taken straight off the menu as would have made someone ill. Such a shame as I left feeling very disappointed and I accept mistakes are made but due to the attitude I won’t be back nor recommend here due to how it was dealt with."

"this facility is located in lairgate and frankly quite easy to miss because it is very small. but my daughter and I loved it. we went only for coffee and cake, but we were very welcome and the service was cheerful and efficient. it confirms itself as “a taste of France” and that is a very accurate statement. it is really very authentic French terrace and there is also a very good choice. we had fruit pots and they were certainly fruity, tasty, tasty and quite large. the baked was great. the coffee was also smashed. two coffee and two teas came at £10.50, which was very reasonable. I was not aware that they also offered breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, as well as take-away food, including homemade chocolate and party cakes. there are even special evenings monthly. I will return with the family to try the afternoon and I will report back soon. this caffe is openly a small gem, slightly missed, but not! speciality in the evening meal after we have noticed that the special evening menus are also placed twice a month, we have tried one in the february. the full cost of the meal were £29-95 per person, and they reserve a table with a £5/person payment. they book their selection of dresses in advance. vegetarian options are available when they ask. the device has no license to sell alcohol, so they can bring their own wein, but water is provided free of charge and they can buy alcohol-free drinks. we point out that we arrive fairly late, but they can start their meal at any time at the evening until 8.00 o'clock. it was a tasty experience. there was a friendly atmosphere. it was warm and cozy and the service was fast, careful and efficient. we had kanapes at the arrival, followed by delicious chicken liver pate. two of us then had served the fishduo roulade with a creamy petersil sauce, while my other daughter had decided to the pork fillet with burnt aprikosen. these main dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. it followed a smashed assiette gourmande. we have finished with tea/coffee and petit four. extra tea/coffee was available when needed. there are not many tables so that an evening can be booked completely soon. we have now reserved ourselves for the march and have almost failed, although the owners have pointed out that they were willing to put extra evenings when there was enough demand. speciality evening dinner again! its speciality in the evening, twice or three times a month are absolutely tasty and so much worth at £29.95 per guest. for example, they get kanapes at the arrival, a starter, main course, desert, coffee and competition four. to give them an idea, my daughter chose the French wobbles soup and loved them. I had a delicious fish risotto and for the main course veal or duck were offered. cheesecake or chocolate mousse was available for dessert. all desserts were beautifully presented, very tasty and the service was friendly and very efficient. we can't get there early, but we could eat from 8.00 o'clock. menu details for the next months can be picked up with interest in the terrace. the afternoon is delicious, substantially and very good. the sandwiches were excellent, the brot fresh and tasty. I liked the coronation chicken and smoked salmon with cream cheese especially. alternatives can be ordered when required. there were no stirs that were hardly surprising, but both the hearty and sweet croissants were delicious as the cakes. they can have either tea or coffee. the tee was excellent and we were provided with hot water and milk. the service is friendly and first advice they can not book a table, but if they arrive after 2 clock, they should have little problem getting a table. we were tempted by some wonderful extra goodies. beautifully presented, rich, ingenious and best common cake in the form of Swiss chalets, candles and baubles. trees to light up christmas. full-day breakfast: extensive menu, very tasty and good value. recommend the speck and a breakfast basket"
