"We visited Mother India on Saturday 19th March and had the most disappointing visit. I am not one for giving one star reviews too often, but given how much went wrong it’s the only score I can honestly give. The food was ok (but not...as good as I’d been told), but the service was just too bad to be true and therefore one star is appropriate. The reason for one star as follows…… We were forced to wait outside in the cold when there were only two other tables in front of us waiting. We had all booked, the tables were available, yet there seemed to be great difficulty for the manager in dealing with arrivals and allocating them a table. When we did eventually get to our table we were stuck in what can only be called a passage way and were then inconvenienced by staff every time someone passed the remainder of the night. Ordering drinks wasn’t easy either, a couple of soft drinks arrived but then we had to chase up our wine about three times and were then asked if we had ordered Gin. Three times we were asked if we ordered Gin and each time they were told no, but we still hadn’t received our wine. When the wine eventually arrived, it was simply placed on the table unopened and the waiter walked away. Luckily it was a screw top, which we opened ourselves and poured. Moving onto the main course. We received our mains and rice which were acceptable, but the Nan bread we ordered did not arrive. When we asked about the Nan bread, the waiter just shrugged and said “the Nan’s come from upstairs”! Indeed 10 minutes later the Nan did arrive from upstairs. By which time we were almost finished our meals. Even upon leaving the restaurant there were no pleasant thank you’s or goodbye’s and it felt more like “just close the door on your way out”. Extremely poor customer service and so disappointing given the good reputation of the restaurant"

"I am reluctant to give a 5 star review which I would have given, had their food standards been consistent, but since their most recent pizza, I cannot praise them too highly. As seen in the 1st most blurry picture (please excuse my old phone’s quality the pizza was of excellent standard; thin and crisp base, fresh sugo, tasty mozzarella, decent crusts. Moving onto my most recent visit (when the 3 other pics were taken , the pizza was simply a disappointment. I could guess the mushrooms were tinned (could be wrong, but looking at the picture you may make up your own mind , the pizza was slightly undercooked, and overall didn’t taste anywhere near as good as it did during our first few visits during 2021. The tiramisù and bruschetta have been consistent, surprisingly enough, though the bruschetta’s portion size after 2021 has been reduced… We have not visited again since the quality of pizza stooped so low, but we do hope this was a one off, and we got unlucky that day. If the quality nowadays is similar to when we visited a couple years ago, I’d highly recommend! However I do have my reservations given our most recent visit. If you do decide to visit, best of luck and I hope you don’t receive the same pizza standard as we did recently (around March 2023 . I have only knocked 1 star off a 5 star review purely for the recent pizza ‘quality’, if I were to return and receive the same bad pizza I’d have to give 1 or 2 stars unfortunately, as that standard of pizza for a supposedly authentic and quality Italian restaurant is unacceptable. Something extra to be noted: they do offer a reasonably priced set lunch deal (and possibly dinner if I remember correctly… which has a great selection of meals to choose from! :"

"Been here several times over the past few years and for some reason the quality of food/service and overall experience has declined with each visit. My girlfriend and I visited again in May of this year and were extremely disappointed. Food options used to be really exciting (I loved the maccaritos they used to do) but have been vastly reduced to the same things you can get at literally any vegan or vegan-friendly place, except not as tasty and double the price, with a side of bad customer service to boot. In the past I haven’t had any issues with the staff or service but this time there was a really weird vibe. We were served by a man with a sort of annoyed-manager aura who was really rude and short with us. I tried to order a hot dog and was told “I don’t have any hot dogs today”, no apology or anything. Had to pick something else really quick with this guy acting like I’d spat in his face. Sorry for coming, I guess? He was also quite rude when we ordered drinks at the bar and was overall very unpleasant to deal with. Food came and was a massive disappointment. Big portions but really average in terms of quality. The fries were like a worse version of McDonald’s fries: soggy, stale and tasteless. We picked at our plates and decided it wasn’t worth hanging around any longer. Normally we’d stay for a drink but the atmosphere felt pretty hostile and we couldn’t relax, plus the prices are pretty extortionate for what you’re getting. Beware if you go on the weekends; there is normally some kind of event on as this is a music venue as well as a bar/restaurant. It’s very, very loud and not great if you want to go somewhere where you can actually enjoy a conversation. Others might not mind this as much, but it wasn’t the kind of experience we were after. We’re quite familiar with other aspects of the establishment (pretty dingy as its underground, toilets are never clean) and kind of didn’t mind in the past since the service and food were good, but have to admit these aspects are much less endearing when the menu and servers are **** too. Honestly, don’t waste your time. This place peaked in 2016/2017 and it’s not worth the money anymore, which is a real shame. There are plenty of other vegan places in Glasgow with amazing food and a welcoming atmosphere who are actually still passionate about what they do. Do yourself a favour and give The Flying Duck a miss."

"Monday evening 12/06/2023 around 18:00, my wife and I stopped by, at the chairs outside, to enjoy a refreshment. I went inside to order drinks, and expected to carry them out as I have so many times in þhe past, only to be told ‘There was a function on and it was too much hassle to serve us’. This was confirmed by the bar manager on duty whose attitude was frankly rude verging on aggressive. As locals in the area, we are disgusted that our business is only good enough when you’re ‘quiet’. Furthermore, we were embarrassed to see 2 Spanish tourists and 2 German tourists also being refused entry/service all in the matter of minutes. Six of us stood outside looking in, perplexed at what had just happened. Both Germans Spanish were only looking for a traditional Scottish experience we, as locals we were only looking for a refreshment after a long walk. Unfortunately, all we experienced what was a thoughtless, jobsworth that couldn’t be bothered compounded by an unwelcoming attitude. How disappointing and how embarrassing that visitors to Glasgow are left with such a poor example of Glaswegian hospitality. I would have seriously thought that the Tryst would have trained their staff or hired better trained staff. Customer service is not their strong point. Go to Kelp 20 Mtres away, that's what we'll be doing. it's got a nicer beer garden and friendly staff too."

"I write this with heavy heart as the cafe has long been our ‘go to’ place for lunch or coffee and scones/cake. Lunch dropped off the agenda some time ago , as I have not been impressed with the rarely changing menu.I did try the Art Lovers salad a few weeks back when a friend was keen to have lunch there but it was really poor.Fairly tasteless dressing and two big, muckle lumps of chicken dumped on top . Not chargrilled in nice sliced pieces but cooked and served as if someone really couldn’t be bothered. There were also two big chunks of avocado..again, poorly presented. I had long thought the scones here were amongst the very best(being a scone aficionado But on the last two visits for tea and scones, my fruit scone has been as dry as toast. Not sure if they are not freshly made anymore, or frozen or just poorly made. I did complain about this a few days ago and got a replacement which was just as bad.Not the (always very nice and friendly serving staff’s fault but a poor baker in the kitchen perhaps. They usually serve the scones nice and warm but this was lukewarm , I assume because any more heating would have rendered it inedible. I really hope the cafe can return to its previous quality. It was incredibly quiet when we were in at the weekend so perhaps others are finding similar issues. It’s such a lovely venue too and we always buy the annual Friends card but I can see it getting far less use for the remainder of the year ,sadly."
