"A disappointing meal .bad service from front of house and kitchen. We were highly recommended by our hotel and locals which made the experience even more disappointing. We ordered two roast dinners with a side of caulifower cheese . Service was slow. Our food arrived and there were no roast potatoes. He returned again with the cauli side . Still no potatoes . We then ordered a side of roasts . The waiter saw we had no potatoes and took the additional order and went to the kitchen. This was not isolated occurence. A young couple at a neighbouring table were also served a roast , again no roast potatoes were on the plate or brought seperately. When the waiter next appeared ihe informed us having checked with the kitchen , that we could order roast potatoes and that they would take a further few minutes . At which time I asked for the menu . It clearly stated after the roast meat choices that roast potatoes seasonal.vegetables and gravy would be included . I pointed this put to the waiter who did not admit their mistake but scurried back to the chef. Before he scurried, I asked for the adjacent table to also have roast potatoes served as part of their roast dinner. I told him to cancel our additional side order of roast potatoes as it should have been present on plate and we required them not as additional side but to be included as printed on daily menu. He hadnt noticed or indeed checked their order and presented plate. So you can see why he scurried.. Finally the potatoes arrived with apology... from the chef , via the waiter, not in person. It was not busy at this time for food. The chef appeared and walked through the restaurant area twice but didnt apologise or interact with any staff or customers. He hadnt finished serving covers and it was not home time. The food was overrated in quality taste and quantity. I would not recommend roast lamb or roast beef. Both priced over 20 pounds for a course. When the bill was requested there was no courtesy chat if everything was okay with the meal, or an apology or a discount. At this time of paying i said I was very disappointed with the meal as we had been highly recommemded The couple duly received their roast potatoes but no apology or comment passed to them Poor food, poor team poor front of house and kitchen staff. I dont know how other recommendations managed to be anything but creative writing. Terrible. Do not go to this location for a Sunday Roast. Maybe risk a liquid lunch. But beware."

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"
