"La Bastide Clairence is one of those ancient French hill towns and we were driving through its square on a bright sunny February day when someone spotted La Table Gourmande and the happy people sitting outdoors on its terrace at the front. We decided to go for it and went into the restaurant. There was just one table free and we got it. On the walls were pictures of exotic French versions of the game of tennis. Service was friendly, good-natured and prompt. We had a choice of courses for the plat du jour but the star was the steak served as a main course. First course was a large turreen of sea food soup. There was a choice of desserts. We were highly satisfied and afterwards had coffee (the most amazing selection of exotic coffees from across the world--strictly for connoisseurs. It was a brilliant day. Wth a bottle of wine, not quite as cheap as some of the road side hotels but very good indeed."

"a pity to be welcomed by an unpleasant waitress who refuses to put 2 tables of 2 to make 4. Responding with impolitesse has a mi sieur who has been waiting for 10 minutes since we throw a look at him while he has reserved. not great dishes, really for tourists who dare not push further their journey. Home much better at the entrance of the village in another restaurant. .. ps. of the region :)"
