"We eat out on a regular basis so wanted to try somewhere 'new ' for a change..Although we have been here in the past but not for a long, long time. It was a Sunday evening so thought it would be quiet. I booked a table for 2 by telephone and the lady was very pleasant. When we arrived we went to reception and asked where the restaurant was, 'just to the left ' we were told, which was ok but they didn 't ask our name or time we had booked the table and really should have taken us there, anyway we found it, it was 'just there on the left '! There was no one to 'greet ' us, we could 've just walked in 'off the street ' so we asked the gentleman behind the bar, he said 'just go in a sit where you like '. The room was quite busy, this was just after 8.30pm, mostly families, which surprised us, a table of young men and another couple. It had the feel of a 'holiday hotel ' dining room, one family were playing cards in between courses! The room itself was quite scruffy and the chairs were worn and marked. It wasn 't exactly a place for a romantic candlelit meal for two, which luckily we hadn 't gone for, but if we had of done it wouldn 't have been, it was too bright for a start and I sat right under a spotlight! There was one young man serving so it took a while to take our order, we did think of leaving after 15 minutes waiting as we weren 't impressed. The 'barman ' finally came over with the menu, which was the Sunday Lunch menu, I think we could 've had the a la carte if we had asked for it but we weren 't offered any other menu. He took our order for the drinks, a pint a tonic water. When he brought the drinks he gave me the pint and my husband the tonic water!! We ordered our starter mains at that point, we also expected a bread roll whilst we waited but nothing! when the young man brought our starters he did apologise for the initial wait and he was very polite, Sir Madam etc. the starter was very nice , melon with fruit compote, for our mains we both had salmon accompanied by seasonal veg. you couldn 't fault the meal tbh. We only had the two courses. Now the next thing was do you wait for them to bring the bill or do you get up and just walk out to reception?? Nobody came to clear the plates and ask if everything was ok or if we wanted a sweet, so we just got up and went to reception. We had no table number but the receptionist seemed to know what we had to eat although she hadn 't included the drinks, we could 've made a quick escape but she was really nice and we felt guilty so we pointed out she hadn 't taken for the drinks. All in all we won 't be going back in a hurry, although like I say the food was good, but we were disappointed, as we thought it was considered one of the better Hotels in Wolverhampton."
