"we were once again in a varina. this time with a group of seven people. I would like to take out my food, tasty pigs. very tasty. What was not great. I got a dirty weinglas for the second time. Sorry, that's not possible. The next thing was the weizen schal and stood off.Now I have to point out the service. two service forces for a fully occupied local is more than too little. Unfortunately, the service was already underused during my visit to the february.More personal would do well locally. then the gast gets clean glasses, fresh beer and does not wait 20 minutes for the promised potatoes."

friendly, quick and hard service. Unfortunately, the grilled campis were lukewarm and the dorade was placed on the dish as a whole fish.

I was there with friends and I have to say I was very surprised. the restaurant more like a living room furnished. I had a grilled fish plate and that was excellent. my friends were also very happy with their choice.

among the many small Portuguese or tapas restaurants in this Portuguese quarter (landing bridges) my resident in hamburg assures me that this is the best and actually authentic enough to be comparable to the good local of lisboa or porto.

have been here several times. this is great. forget the menu, they say how hungry they are and what they may not like. the waiter and the chef take care of the rest. no white tablecloths, authentic and very good eating. when they are here in the summer, they drink something in a restaurant in the open before they come here, because they sit inside. every visit to Hamburg we make a trip to’s a varina and were not disappointed this time: we had a nice place, the chef took care of us quickly and it’s impressive how he has the tageskarte in the head. Drinks and eat quickly, the portions are good and the fish very fresh. the mood in the local is good, we spent a nice evening with friends. We like to come back!

a varina has been my absolute favorite fish for many years and that with constant quality and choice. eating is super, whether fish or meat and if vegetarian are there, then in the kitchen extra something is enchanted, which is not to be found on a map. who does not run spontaneously with the handy in the hand through the portugiesen district, should definitely reserve it! in the frame of several visits and a family celebration, we once again visited this great local. besides the diverse appetizers, we were given the opportunity to choose from the very wide Portuguese map and countless possibilities of diners next to the map - all a true pleasure.Very recommended in great ambiente with a great gast-friendly atmosphere and super nice condition.

after several months in Germany, the visit at a varina was like cast. Portuguese food of the highest quality, of course with focus on fish. As mentioned earlier, they ask the friendly Portuguese ministers for a proposal and they will not regret it. the environment is decorated with typical objects from portugal, making it even more traditional. there are also Ambient music with a very interesting selection of Brazilian pop music (at least while I was there) the bill was 70 euro, including covered, two main dishes, water and white wine of the house.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
