"we have booked about groupon, sunday lunch for 4, we are native, but have never been in this hotel. the hotel has 4 stars and we have it for a good opportunity to try somewhere new. unfortunately we were disappointed! the dining room left... much to wish, in contrast to the photos of the website they had no tablecloths, some tables with linen serviettes, but the majority with cheap paper serviettes. after previous booking was not prepared for us. I had mentioned at the time of booking, it was my daughter 12 birthday! an opportunity to eat as a family at lunchtime. the menu is an A4 paper, really a menu in a 4-star setup should be displayed within the regular menu, as it can be changed regularly. the no beverage menu is also available! my man ordered a beer that he called stale. I ordered foam water because I didn't have a drink menu to choose something else. we ordered two suppen, both came with rolls and butter and enjoyed by our girls. I ordered the pate (what I didn't have) served with 3 pieces of stabbread and poor quality pate. also not enough wobble jam. herr ordered the prawn cocktail, it was quite average, but again served with stale brot. main course, 2 chickens, 2 bark meat roast dinner. the disappointment of my girls has said everything. there are no contingencies offered, but we have asked for horse-radish, not to ask if something else was required or told about other contingencies. the bratkartoffels were hardly roast, no maic, the veg was safe frozen and the serving was small, the bark was tender, but the rest of the food was very disappointing. the huh went well, but both girls pressed their disappointment with the kartoffels and veg dessert was ice, lemon tart or fruit salad, we all decided for the lemon tart, it was nothing special, and my guess is that it was frozen. there was no tea or coffee offered and we could have ordered some at an additional price. Nobody welcomed us when we came in and didn't say goodbye. we would come back, probably not if the environment improved, quality improved, service improved and eating improved. Personally, I feel very sad when I have to write such a negative review, but the owners have to sit and listen. for sale on groupon means in the rule of one of two things, they are new and looking for customers or an established place that fights. While the hotel has been in the opposite for many years, I cannot answer the question of the property. the dining room should be packed with locals who come for a good lunch. £20 per head with much better quality budgets offered with good 4 stars hotel service and on the sale drinks then they do not have to rely on groupon! standards must be consistent on every table and I expect a table cloth in a 4-star hotel restaurant. maybe a little background music and a dress code, no baseball caps, no west and no shorts, except smart! then wait employees have to be trained for 4 star service, both employees were in order, but this is not good enough. the owners have a choice, hear or sell goods by groupon, but in the long term this is not good business sense. it could be such a great place."

Couldn't fault the two evening meals breakfast that we had. Particularly enjoyed were the goats' cheese and beetroot starter, the spare ribs and the duck. No complaints about the shared dessert either.

Breakfast was very good. It is self service and had the usual full English. I had at least one meal here while staying at the hotel. The food was very good, I had steak, but it was very expensive. The service was very good.

Visited with colleagues . Staff friendly and helpful . Had to send beer back as was cloudy with odd taste but waiter sorted this without fuss. Food was very good and tasty however definite improvements that could be made all handles on all doors...were filthy, windows filthy inside and out , table we were sat at outside filthy. If what you can see is dirty what’s the kitchen like?!

my wife and I went for champagne afternoon tea. the recipe was very friendly and helpful. they showed us to our table, then it went down from there. without asking what we wanted, they brought tee. then the food came. sandwiches directly from the...fridge, still cold, covered with clingfilm that we had to remove. no explanation of what we were given, although we could see what sandwiches they were, it would have been polite to say what they were. no very pleasant experience.

my friend and I have booked a afternoon tea in this well furnished lodge in kingston. the tee was not cheap, but we were happy to go because of the pleasant and old fashion atmosphere. but apart from the small sandwiches, the scorpions were wavy and hard, the brownies were dry like dust and the meringues bought and not fresh. I wrote to the catering manager and said how disappointing the afternoon was. I didn't get a reply. I then wrote to the manager of the lodge and explained again what had happened. no answer yet. I wasn't looking for a freebie, but just wanted an apology or explanation to show that it was one. but the fact that there was no answer at all shows that the problem goes much...

I was amazed at the positive ratings for afternoon tea at this Hotel. The staff were courteous until we had reason to complain. The selection of sandwiches were not the best, the bread tasted as if it had been sitting around awhile, not very fresh....The tea we were given was ok but unlike other hotels there was no choice of variety offered.. we could cope with that ! The cake selection was okish. The main complaint we had was the place was filthy, we sat by a window in a large room on our own, the windows, window ledge and window sill were filthy dirty with dirt and dust. Rain came through a leak in the roof and we had to prove this to the duty Manager, why would we lie if one us was getting...

We had the most fantastic day here celebrating our sons wedding. Initially I had reservations about the hotel venue, the price seemed to be to good to be true. I was sure that we would have to compromise on something somewhere I couldn’t have...been more wrong. Before the wedding, communication was excellent and questions answered thoroughly. We wanted a couple of extra bits done for the bride and groom and the hotel accommodated all our requests. The staff were exceptional, really exceptional. They could not have done anymore to make everyone feel welcome (Kate and Andrea were especially brilliant) water jugs and drinks were replenished. Every detail looked after. Everyone that I spoke to s...

I often come with my daughter to kingston lodge and have tea/coffee in the bar area. I thought it was nice, so when it was my partner birthday, we decided to celebrate a family dinner. when we arrived, I asked if we could still eat in a restaurant, although we were not guests of the hotel, they said that they had a event so that we could not eat in the restaurant, but we could eat in the lounge area. we were halfway through our meal when a worker came and told us we had to pay now. I was shocked and asked why and they told us that it was because we were not in the hotel, although I had asked if it was okay to eat. I explained that we want gloomy and more drinks, but he insisted that we pay t...

I was expecting an excellent experience based on previous reviews but I’m afraid we will not return. Firstly my colleague’s cup was dirty. When we were ordering the waiter couldn’t remember what types of tea were available and had to get the box of sachets...to show us. When the food arrived I just couldn’t believe it. The jam was not individual pots but rather was plopped into a stainless steel gravy boat, as was the clotted cream which was served like ice cream balls in an identical gravy boat. The scones were dry as dust (may have been frozen, certainly didn’t taste fresh). The sandwiches were made with thick cut bread and the cucumber ones with the white bread were clearly made with the...

"Obon: a petit Japanese udon restaurant that supplies a sense of Japan that cannot be found anywhere else in the whole of the Uk. (5 stars) Location: Obon is located close to the heart of Kingston but the road it’s on is considerably quieter. You must make sure to have a basic knowledge of Kingston in order to find an area to park and to also make sure you leave yourself enough time, taking the unpredictability of the traffic into acount. Even on a week day there can be traffic jams which can put a halt to your plans and due to the small amount of customers Obon can take its important that you not only book but make sure that you arrive at the agreed booking time. With this being said the staff are all lovely so if you are running late, a quick call is all that is required to just give Obon a chance to understand your position. The food: The array of exquisitely prepared sashimi will be sure to create the sensation that you are in a top Japanese restaurant in japan and the flavour of the fish does not fail to match expectations, which will be very high after just one glance at your meal. The fish is delicately seasoned and practically melts on your tongue, this causes a lovely sensation and is genuinely the finest sushi I have tasted in the uk and even matches a lot of the top restaurants in japan. On top of just the traditional types of sushi, which to many is maki rolls Obon also offers many other delicious options such as soft shell crab and even Unagi don, which I must highly recommend due to it consistently being the highlight of my meal. For those of you that were interested in the quality of the basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup or edamame they do not fail to leave you in grand anticipation for what is to come for they are, simply speaking, incredibly good. The miso, in my opinion, is truly remarkable and creates a lasting feeling of warmth throughout your entire body, on top of that it is far superior to other miso’s that I have tasted in all other areas of the world. Overall the quality of the food is something you would expect from a world famous Michelin star restaurant and if you want Japanese food it’s the only place I can recommend. The Restaurant: The restaurant itself is small but authentic in nature and because it only has a enough tables to host around 20 people at the most, the service is exceptionally good and your food is always out quickly so you will not be left hungry for very long. The staff are kind and friendly. And it’s always an enjoyable experience being waves goodbye as you leave the restaurant. You’re also able to watch as they prepare the food, which for some could be entertaining. There are Japanese photos scattered around the room and this further creates an authentic feel. The atmosphere is not lively but it is a restaurant and not a bar so is an ideal location if you are wanting high quality food. With this being said it is still a great place to go with friends and I consistently am able to have a great time no matter the occasion. Price: Obviously, the price of the food is always an important topic to come to and despite the cost of the sushi being slightly higher than you may expect from a small restaurant in Kingston, I would have to say that for the quality of the food it is ultimately a bargain. For three people, you would be spending around £100 so it isn’t cheap but you can go for cheaper types of food such as udon, which is still amazing quality and won’t set you back as much money. Overall: Obon is still my favourite restaurant in the whole of the Uk and is perfect for a special occasion but it isn’t the sort of place you’d go for a casual night out. The food is beyond incredible and thus they can cater for both children and adults by meeting every bodies needs. For anybody that enjoys sushi, I would urge you to give it a go, you won’t regret it"
