"We expected a refined afternoon tea but this is not the case at One Square. Sandwiches are like doorstops, the filled rolls are enormous and difficult to eat, the tea went cold in 5 minutes and the opera cake was like cardboard with plastic icing. The afternoon tea was served in a foyer area which was noisy and gloomy. The scones were good though! For the best afternoon tea in Edinburgh pay a little extra and go to the Balmoral Hotel. It’s what an afternoon tea should be."

Food was cold and presentation was poor potentially due to a large weeding party present. We did complain and one of the main meals were discounted from our bill. Service was very good, though.

This was a gift to us, and we really enjoyed it. We began with appetizers like salmon on cucumbers, followed by a three-tier tray of sweets. There was so much that we couldn't finish it all, and we're still enjoying the treats three days later! Everything was delicious and well worth the price. I would highly recommend having high tea here.

We received a gift of a meal at this restaurant. We began with appetizers like salmon with cucumber, among other dishes, and then we were served a three-layered dessert that was incredibly sweet. It was so generous that we still have some leftover sweets three days later! Everything was delicious, and the cost was worth it. I would definitely recommend this place!

The food was delicious, and there was a great selection. The service was mostly excellent and friendly. Unfortunately, the sandwiches had been made in advance and were a bit dry. It would have been better if everyone had their own. There were only two cakes for three of us, which was a bit disappointing. It would have been nice if the drinks had been refilled more quickly.

The food was delicious, and there was a great variety to choose from. The service was mostly excellent and friendly. However, the sandwiches had been prepared a bit earlier and were somewhat dry. It would have been better if we could have had one of each item. There were only two of certain cakes, but we were a party of three. It would have also been nice to have our drinks refilled more quickly.

The dining experience was quite enjoyable, but the service left much to be desired. It felt as though we were an afterthought for the staff. It was hard to get the server’s attention, and she seemed overwhelmed and a bit anxious. Additionally, I mistakenly received the wrong type of tea twice. Although they replaced it the first time, I didn’t have the heart to mention it again on the second occasion.

The food was excellent, but the service left much to be desired. It felt as though we were a burden to the staff. We struggled to get the attention of the servers, and it was quite disappointing that they wouldn't allow us to try a different tea, especially considering the prices we were paying. Additionally, they got our tea order wrong twice. They replaced it the first time, but I didn't have the heart to bring it up again the next time.

As always at One Square, the service was exceptional. The staff manage the challenging trick of being both unobtrusive yet also always there when you need them. We really liked the selection of savouries quiche, scotch egg, etc which made a nice change from just sandwiches. The scones were lovely as was the selection of cakes. Endless refills of tea made for a perfect afternoon. Because you can book up till 5pm, it makes a great pre theatre choice for the Usher Hall.

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
