"We recently had the pleasure of dining at The Kitchin in Edinburgh. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we felt ensconced in the atmosphere and genuine hospitality the restaurant provided. It was apparent that great care had been taken to create a place that was pleasing and comfortable as the interior décor was cozy and intimate. The Surprise Tasting Menu was diverse and the dishes were crafted with the utmost skill and creativity. Each of the seven courses that we indulged in was a true masterpiece (including the vegetarian versions) because the favors were exquisite and the presentation of each dish was a work of art. The staff was very knowledgeable in describing each dish and you can taste the thoughtfulness and care in every delicious bite. We were very pleased that we decided to also include the wine pairing because we enjoyed learning about each and they complimented each dishes perfectly. The only glitch was that the optional cheese course took a lot longer to be served than the previous courses and then the rest of the courses took longer than usual, as well as receiving our bill at the end, and the dinner service ended up taking 5 hours. We had an absolutely outstanding meal at The Kitchin. We emailed the restaurant to let them know we had four gluten free diners, and they were prepared for us. They let us do the Surprise Tasting Menu gluten free, with many courses! They had seafood, beef, vegetable courses, dessert, and delicious gluten free bread. None of us had issues with the food, and they seemed very knowledgeable about gluten. The meal was expensive and very long, but 100% worth it. Everyone in our group said it was the best meal they had ever had. If you can get in this place, do it.

I 've wanted to visit this restaurant for quite some time but it is a four hour drive from Leeds. So, when we had the opportunity of a few days in Balmoral with family it presented the ideal opportunity to make this a priority on the way back via Edinburgh. We booked for a Friday lunchtime on the basis that it provided a broad opportunity to order A La Carte, the tasting menu, which we not great fans off generally, or the lunchtime set menu. We opted for the lunchtime menu and wine flight. It turned out to be one of the best dining experiences we 've had for a while and we 've eaten in other Michelin star restaurants.
