"There was no one to great us and I couldn't see any staff at all so went to reception. The member of staff was helpful and went to find restaurant staff and was told our table was being laid up. It wasn't busy to I guess they were not expecting us! Residents at the hotel were finishing breakfast, and we (6 of us) were seated in a dark corner with tables pushed up against the wall. The ladies at the end couldn't get their legs under the table and one was right up against a hot radiator. Needles to say we asked to move to one of the many other tables that were available. The staff member was accommodating and bought us prosecco and menus while we waited for them to lay the table. Once at this new table, everything was perfect. The service and the food was very good and we had a lovely time."

I had a Fab lunch with friends here. coronation chicken sandwich was very tasty, big pieces of huh in a homemade sauce with 3 slices of bread-crises on the side! second time I am here for lunch and will come back definitiw! highly recommended!

they wanted to support a local hotel that tried to eat it on Sunday. the food was tasty, although the dessert was a little disappointing. it felt as if they were appetizers and desserts plated and not warmed up. However, the restaurant had a really cozy feeling and the staff was friendly and attentive. we would go back.

The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived. With no staff around. However when the waitress saw us she sat us down quickly in the empty restaurant. The lack of staff proceeded for most of the night, so service was slow. But the two waiting staff were polite and met our needs. The food was very tasty and all of my party tried different dishes. We had mains and desserts. The pork crackling was burnt, but the edible parts were tasty. The beef burger was well balanced and the fries delicious. Ver carta

We had afternoon tea on a Sunday. The food was below average (although the opera cake was delicious). The service was indifferent, they did nothing to make the experience feel in any way special. We were sat next to the open fire; an opportunity missed as lighting it on a cold autumn’s day would have done a look to create some ambiance. The afternoon tea was just £20 but given the coldness of the atmosphere, easily forgettable food and the strong stench of must in the air (the hotel needs some TLC), I wish we’d just had a pub lunch! Such a shame.

Had afternoon tea, the food was lovely although only 2 flavours of sandwiches as it was confusing what our vegetarian guest should have, as equal numbers came out on two plates. The rest of the food was really tasty and the scones were heavenly The service was a bit sparce. We had to get reception to find someone to seat us. We ordered tea, which came out in pots, but no cups. Waited ages for a staff member,in the end I got my own cups from a dresser in the corner. We well outstayed our welcome due to chatting and we weren't rushed out, which was nice. Overall is was nice, just not the best. (I had been to a posh London hotel for afternoon tea that week so my stardards were high)

"Dinner at The Pass by Ben Wilkinson It is located in South Lodge, one of the finest country house hotels in Sussex. The kitchen is run by Ben and his partner Monika Zurawska, who leads the front of house team. The Pass is a small space, with a large glass wall that stands between the restaurant and the kitchen. An intimate restaurant, offering a unique dining experience for up to 28 diners. You sit at the high topped tables to watch Ben and his young team prepare and then proudly serve a seven course tasting menu. The meal starts with a complimentary glass of fizz and a selection of tasty snacks. The first course is a scallop dish with hokkaido squash, espelette pepper, coppa ham almond. The next course was a show stopper of a Celeriac dish like no other we have ever encountered. Royale beef cheek hen of the woods truffle with a beef fillet smoked emulsion tartlet on the side. As well as a glass of broth with fresh bread and cultured butter. The rest of the courses arrive in quick succession, delivered by chefs who explain each component. Day Boat Turbot, leeks squid dulse white asparagus, Ridgeview sparkling. Venison, roast loin liver dumpling bitter leaves hazelnut artichoke redwine. A course of 3 cheeses. Desserts were Rhubarb, ewe's milk curd rose yoghurt. Chocolate Délice, caramel hazelnut raisin. Just when you thought it was all over, there was a selection of Petit Fours with a sorbet on the side. There's not many hotels that can boast three award winning restaurants, of which this is their flagship. That has just retained its Michelin Star. The food was faultless with staff, charming, and professional."

"Don't come here expecting to grab a quick bite and not book.. ..... The Heritage is a place to relax and savour every mouthful of food whilst being looked after by a really friendly team. The restaurant has a good balance of formal and relaxed....the service is attentive but not starchy and uncomfortable. The food is amazing.... We have lived here a long time and have been thankful that Matt and his team arrived and breathed life back into this previously boarded up building with an extraordinary amount of energy. They haven't excluded villagers from going into the bar and having a drink and we often do . It's good to see an eclectic mix of clientelle all there with a common aim...to enjoy a memorable and special dining experience in the beautiful surroundings of the village. Amused by an earlier rather sour review about twitching curtains in the village we feel compelled to say that the Heritage has brought a rather more considerate visitor that is careful not to block driveways and generally respect the pretty surroundings. We also know getting accidentally stuck up a road that turns into a bridleway can be stressful.....my husband has on occasions reversed the odd car down for a bewildered visitor because it can get a bit tight if there happens to be a wedding at the church. Just leave a little time for the whole dining experience......No one rushes you out of your seat and the table is yours for the evening. It is well worth coming ."
