"We have visited this restaurant multiple times with both family and friends and have never been let down. The staff are incredibly friendly and always greet us with a smile. The food is delightful, made with fresh ingredients and expertly cooked by David. The staff also have a great sense of humor and join in with our family jokes (shoutout to Louise and Cat). We will definitely be returning. Make sure to make a reservation as it can get busy. The restaurant is currently decorated for Christmas, adding to the festive atmosphere. We have no complaints about our experience. xxx"

We regularly visit this pub on a Sunday for a roast dinner. Always made to feel so welcome. The food is great and priced well too. David, Cat and Lou are great hosts Highly recommend

Disappointing. Took family from Germany for dinner in an old pub. Food was not up to standard and menu choice limited. Food more like cafe standard not restaurant. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Ver carta

We had a brilliant meal here today, staff are warm and friendly and Bell the house chocolate Labrador is adorable, our dog was made to feel welcome along side the log fire. Fantastic value for money and can’t fault anything. Will certainly visit again.

Nipped in after a bit of wine tasting at the nearby vineyard and had a very enjoyable lunch. Home cooked pies, burgers and, fish and chips the the pub classics done very well. Beers as good as always too. Just good food and drink in a proper pub. Friendly dog too!

We have visited this restaurant several times due to its convenience, but have never been impressed. This evening, we were made to feel like an inconvenience. Both of our plates had noticeable chips in them. Another couple was turned away quite abruptly. We doubt that we will be returning. Ver carta

Found this little gem en route home from a weekend away. Down a lane off the A272 towards Bolney. It was a Sunday, we didn’t want a roast and were offered light menu. Perfect hot wings and hummus dish. Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Car park at the rear. Would highly recommend

I disagree with the previous review mentioning the staff's curt and rude attitude. I was present during that visit and found Cat and Louise to be polite and lovely. The commenter may have had a bad attitude themselves, and the chipped plates were likely just a mistake. Perhaps they had a difficult childhood. Keep up the great work, 8 Bells!

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
