"Three of us ate at Asha’s Indian Aroma, quite early one evening in August. I don’t want to be mean about it because the waiter was friendly and helpful and appeared to know what he was talking about (when I ordered lamb achari he pointed out that it actually wasn’t the usual lamb achari but lamb tikka with an achari sauce). But anyone looking for anything resembling good and authentic Indian food will be disappointed. I think perhaps the food has been adjusted for regional tastes: there was a lack of spice of any kind, whether aromatic or hot; the “tarka dal” was almost wholly untouched by garlic, oil or spices (I.e. the tarka) and almost all the dishes had been sweetened. Puri were more akin to yorkshire puddings than the light, crisp puffs they should be, and there was no hint of fresh coriander in the chaat. The lamb was hot (not spicy hot) and the rice was fine. I thought it was expensive for what we were given: £90.90 for three. I can imagine that it might be quite a cheery place later in the evening when more people are there (we were the only people there at about 7 pm) and if you’re not fussed about authenticity or quality of cooking, it might be fine."
