"Anniversary meal. Although initially warmly welcomed by the chap at the desk and we were given 2 glasses of fuzz. (Thank you) The service that followed was sullen and unfriendly. There was no ‘check back’ was our food ok? My husbands toasted sandwich was cold. He wasn’t going to say anything as it was our anniversary meal but I could tell he wasn’t enjoying it. We did manage to speak to a waiter who said he wasn’t sure if it shoujd be warm or cold. He took plate with sandwich away and returned with it on a smaller plate not much warmer and again no checking if we were happy? We ate our food. Did notice people were sitting down then getting up and leaving. Again managed to gain someone’s attention to get the bill. Bill placed on our table in silence. Again no how was your meal? Or just general chat ‘happy anniversary’ any nice plans for the day? noticed 10 percent already added on for service so no extra tip from us. I work in hospitality and customer service and was so looking forward to my visit. We are local and were checking out for potential return visits in the Summer. Although, the food is not extravagantly expensive in these hard economic times, friendly, attentive service would have really made the ‘experience’ enjoyable and repeatable. Also allowed to leave with out a ‘good bye’ . Saddened as so looking forward to visit."

This restaurant is a fantastic spot to reunite with some college buddies I hadn't seen in nearly five decades. We all had a great time and really enjoyed our meal.

We ate lunch indoors. The room is spacious and light, the menu well-priced with a nice variety of options. Overall, a positive experience and a good option for a business lunch.

This restaurant is fantastic. It offers stunning views and top-notch service. While there are limited gluten-free options available, the food is delicious and the desserts are simply wonderful.

A pleasant space, convenient, fast and efficient service. But the food isn't very good. It reads well in the menu but wasn't cooked well. Tough lamb, doughy pineapple cake. Food for 2 was £76, this didn't include any drinks.

chose the specials and it was finely balanced. One diner was worried about having to plough though too many beans (written as bens on the menu) but the proportions were spot on. The fish was a generous size, moist and tasty. and the gremolata delicious. no ping was had but staff were happy to provide coffee outside on the terrace.

The restaurant has greatly improved since my last visit over a year ago. The ambiance and service were good, and the food was much better. The chicken starter was a bit chunky and odd at first, but it had a good Mediterranean flavor that melded well as I continued eating. The smoked sea trout was impressive, though the pots seemed a bit old. The beans were very fresh and the trout had a strong smokey flavor, perhaps a bit too much. The panna cotta was pleasant and a bit fluffy, but the crumble and pastry seemed a bit separate and not well blended. Overall, my group of five greatly enjoyed our meal and we will definitely be coming back. Keep up the good work, this restaurant is now back on ou...

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
