Le lieu est joli. L’accueil OK Par contre repas basique et cher pour ce qui est proposé. Vous apprécierez également la corbeille avec « un peu de pain » (suffisant mais ça fait bizarre tant sur l’expression que le résultat… Le vrai problème se situe au niveau de la cuisine près de laquelle nous étions assis. Le personnel parle bien fort, se permet des remarques sur les clients qui n’ont pas lieu d’être. Je plains les clients de ce soir 14 juillet, il va falloir qu’il ne prévoient pas de prendre leur temps.

We have been to the Gabariers many times. In fact every time we have visitors we take them there because of the wonderful site; there is very little that can beat sitting on the quays in Argentat on a lovely sunny day and, if you want to eat, then there is very little choice.The food is OK, that's about all one can say; we have never had a truly bad meal but neither is there any attempt to refinement. Pretty much every dish comes with the same boring salad and some dishes have been quite heavy. Desserts are massive but the sort you get in a cafeteria. The worse thing about the place is the owners. Hooray!! After many years, at last things have improved here with a change in ownership. We went to their opening night, where we were welcomed with lovely smiles and a glass of Sangria to fete their arrival. I won 't waste time describing the bad old days. The all new Auberge des Gabariers makes no attempt to give us modern haute cuisine. The menu was simple, unusually without a fixed price menu. There were about 8 different main dishes on offer and for dessert, waffles or Artisan made ice creams. This is the first time we visited the Auberge at lunch time, and in the run up to the high season. We ate out on the terrace, with a lovely view over the Dordogne river. It has to be on of the best situated places in town. Since the new owners opened a couple of months ago, there have been some (very sensible) changes. They have another chef in the kitchen to help out, and two new wait staff. At the same time there have been some things that haven't changed. The same warm and smiling welcome and a choice of dishes based on good homely cooking at a reasonable price.
