"This Auberge is in our neighborhood and we have eaten there more than several times. The food is very nice (cooked over an open fire with a seasonal choice of game meats and local specialties). Venison (in season) cooked over an open flame, beef, pork,...lamb, chicken ... escargots and local salads (a salade Vosgienne is a meal in and of itself ... local charcuterie ... cheeses ... homemade desserts. The Menus are a great value for money and with meats expertly cooked over an open fire ... gorgeous! The service can seem a bit slow, but it is a family run operation with few employees and a small village atmosphere ... This is not a place to come in for a quick meal or to simply feed yourself ... it is a place to sit down, take time and enjoy your mealtime and meal. It is frequented by local people and the owners/operators seem to know everyone (as is the case in most small villages)...they are not going to be in a hurry and are going to be reserved if they do not know you...to the point of seeming downright unfriendly depending on the day and traffic flow. The first few times we visited, I was taken aback by the cool reception we seemed to receive ... it has nothing to do with the language you speak, it has to do with how familiar they are with you and how busy the restaurant is that day/evening ... they are not being rude, they are simply not the smiley overly familiar brand of restaurant many people expect in tourist areas The menu is in French so if you are not familiar with French food terminology then perhaps a phrase book would be of some value. It would be a shame to visit the Les Vosges mountains and miss out on this gem of a restaurant tucked away in the beautiful little valley of Le Valtin. Come with a big appetite and time to relax and enjoy!!"

Beautiful fire place where the meat is prepared. Meat was beautiful and garniture tasty. For a simple evening in the countryside, this is the right place!

Nice, cosy, tasty food and very good value for money. Usually fully booked in vacation time. We were checking different places to it in the area and this was the best.

had dinner. eating was excellent, the staff was friendly and easy to go and the place had the feeling, somewhere much more expensive than it was. also in a beautiful location.

Visited here twice in a weeks stay in Grand Valtin. The food is delicious and very good value. We both loved the fish cassoulet starter, and the duck cooked on the open fire was faultless. The lady owner could try harder to smile, but everyone...else was very friendly. Well worth a visit. Ver carta

the four of us were tired and not very hungry when we first visited. but auberge lorraine has soon presented our thoughts with the delicious eating on the most attractive way. in a better state of mind, we have revisited the following nights and were bent over by our treatment and quality and presentation of the wonderful mountain style food. it has so far our experience that where the restaurant thinks it has a monopol that suffers quality. not in the case of the auberge, well made to the owners and employees, we have enjoyed our meals with them and can recommend the restaurant quite heartily. well done!

we have passed over this magnificent outburst during a very wet journey through the mountains during the holidays in Alsace. the parking lot was full and it seemed to be just a freer table when we entered, I think we were perhaps the only English...you there and everyone was clearly lunch. we chose the menu at 13.50 euro, which was 3 courses and excellent. our main course was cote du pork and the pork was huge and served over the fire cooked, with sweet and frit. it was only the fact that the restaurant was crowded, that stopped us chewing the gay bones! the desserts were also great, with cream karamell and floating inseln were only two of the desserts on the menu and were first class. I don... Ver carta

On holiday in the region, we ate at the Auberge Lorraine last night. Four of us all chose from the 20 Euro menu and enjoyed every morsel! Some of the previous comments are true, that you need a reasonable grasp of French to get by'...there. The staff speak no English. A phrase book explaining local cuisine option would help, as some options put us a little in the dark. With pt we guessed it might be pate or might be pasta; in the end a huge portion of layered seasoned meat pie turned up! We sat near the open fire where they cook the meat, which was fascinating. We enjoyed the veal flambeed in cream and whisky. Four delicious courses in all. Some previous comments suggest staff were unfriendl...

Ate here recently on holiday with family and friend. I mirror all said by previous contributor David H , we chose the 20€ menu! for all , and honesty....one of the best meals I a Have eaten in recent memory. All reported they were will...impressed, all had a red meat main, cooked on the briar grill located in the main room. Very high standard of door, well presented and cooked to perfection. Our daughter chose the lamb chops and wished aloud we knew how to cook them that way at home, my wife and I has steak served with a whiskey cream sauce superb, our guest had a simple steak with a red onion sauce. All were very impressed. Desserts were top, the chocolate cake in creme anglaise was memorab...
