"I had planned a full day at this restaurant for my boyfriend's 30th birthday, but it turned out to be a disaster. I had booked cocktail making and a 3-course dinner for 12 people, as well as a private area by the bar in the evening for more guests to join for drinks and music by the DJ. However, when I arrived to decorate the private area, I was told the staff couldn't assist due to being short-staffed. I had to rush to set up decorations myself, even though I could have arrived earlier if I had known. The cocktail making experience was disappointing, as we were placed at the end of a crowded bar and couldn't fully enjoy the activities. The meal was decent, though some guests complained about the quality of their food. The night took a turn for the worse when the DJ didn't show up, despite us eagerly waiting for music and dancing. The manager failed to inform us of his absence, and when I addressed my concerns with the owner, he was unapologetic and rude, shifting blame onto me. Ultimately, I left the restaurant feeling upset and disappointed. The owner eventually agreed to refund the fee for the private area, but it was not enough to make up for our disappointing experience. I do not plan on returning to this establishment."

Thank you to Elliot, Shelby and the team who created such a special event for our son. We had the private dining room downstairs which was lovely, providing both privacy for an intimate gathering of friends as well as being so close to the view...

Dined in the upstairs restaurant. The view across Ipswich Marina at sunset was magnificent. The staff were fabulous. We had battered haddock, chips and peas followed by crème brûlée. The food was without fault, accompanied by an excellent, good-value bottle of French rosé wine. Ver carta

Six girlfriends gathered for dinner at Aurora, a very stylish venue. The food was good, but what really stood out was the exceptional service we received that evening. Our waitress took excellent care of us, attending to our needs brilliantly and unobtrusively. She was a valuable asset to the restaurant.

Avoid it like the plague! Worst food I have ever encountered. Was so embarrassed to take mr German friends there. Food was inedible and extremely badly presented, most dishes were left uneaten. Absolute disgrace. Have not replied to my emails of complaint. For three people £140 with no sweets or coffee! Had given up before then. What a disappointment. Would never go there again!!!!!! Well! Have been here many times before and service usually excellent. Unfortunately our very recent visit has been so different. Just been one problem upon another! Most roast dinners weren’t available, the fixed price menu on the website is no longer available, waited half an hour before the Waitress came back to take the desert order. Then was asked for a card as the bill was exceeding £100, but we had paid a deposit!! However, the food we did have was lovely. Just the bad service that let it all down.

Booked for a family Sunday lunch as liked the Sunday set menu on the website; the 2 or 3 courses set options. Had a pushchair and wheelchair, informed lift wasn’t working (wasn’t 3 months ago either) had to go up the back ramp but there is also 4 steps there soo not accessible friendly. Got upstairs, waitress gave wrong menus, then rectified it however the Sunday set course menu wasn’t on there. Was informed by waitress that was not on asked to speak to manager not there. Spoke to chef who informed us that the menu isn’t around anymore; ironically it’s the same food menu without the cheaper option of 2/3 courses. There was also no head chef and most of the food had already been cooked and wa...

"Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one 's first evening meal in the hotel 's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand . This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute 's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being an R in the month , mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a seafood skewer , presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not fine dining , perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest! weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet."
