"There was also no beverage menu displayed, which made ordering a drink more difficult. The café was loud and bright, which was overwhelming for me as someone with Neurodiversity. The tables were too close together, and I could hear the conversations of strangers nearby. Although I understand they are working with limited space, removing a couple of tables could make the dining experience more comfortable. I didn't feel relaxed and just wanted to finish my visit quickly. The prices for breakfast items like toast and granola were shockingly high. I paid £10 for posh beans on toast, which felt like a rip-off since it was essentially hummus on toast, something I could easily make at home for much less. The sourdough and hummus were tasty, but I couldn't justify the cost. In conclusion, Birch needs to consider that not every customer is neurotypical. Making small changes such as clearer menus, more space, and quieter music can greatly improve the overall experience. As much as I enjoyed the food, the high prices and overwhelming atmosphere make me hesitant to visit again. My bank account certainly couldn't handle it."

The cakes at this restaurant are absolutely delicious, the best we've ever tasted! The coffee is also very yummy. We enjoyed sitting outdoors in the sunshine.

Very friendly staff and most if not all options can be made vegan. Perfect also for grabbing a coffee and going for a stroll by the beach. Will definitely be back next time we visit Newcastle.

The restaurant had a somewhat limited menu, but the coffee was delicious, as were the soup and toastie. They also had a nice selection of items for purchase, such as chocolates. It's a shame that it's not fully vegan, but I still enjoyed my experience.

I had an incredibly tasty lunch at this restaurant today. I went with two friends who are not vegetarian and they were very impressed. The soup and sandwich combo I had was outstanding, with a creative filling that combined multiple ingredients perfectly. The location is great, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the service is friendly. I will definitely return when I am in the area again and I am sure my local friends will want to come back as well.

Pleasantly surprised how good the food was here. It is a vegi/ vegan place that offers drinks and food. Nice little place with a fantastic view of the sea. We have soup and a sandwich to share what costs £10. Soup changes weekly. I have pumpkin soup tasted it like a curry aroma and it was delicious! The sandwich was butternut squash, hummus, salad and I think it was chili jam or something. It was all really good and the sourdough bread was really good! Good customer service.

This café in Newcastle offers a minimalist style with a gorgeous view of the sea. It is located in a quieter area of the city. The café is popular and serves good quality food. The menu has been simplified to ensure quick service, offering only a few options on busy days. I had soup, coffee, a sourdough toastie with spiced beans, and a coffee. The coffee selection and variety of buns and pastries were good. The soup was average, but the toastie was delicious and hearty. The café was very busy, but we managed to find a seat. The service was quick. Overall, I would give this place 3 stars. It is probably the best vegetarian option on the promenade, but it didn't stand out to me. I have had a b...

Two branches caught out a few times due to changed opening hours. We had the veganised eggs and greens. It was smoked tofu (instead of eggs) on a bed of cabbage, green beans and broccoli with kimchi, sweet potato wedges and a tahini dressing. Quite an original lunch. They had two sweet options a lime and coconut scone or a biscoff cup. We tried the later with coffee and it was good like a very dense/firm caramel square. Look forward to trying other items in the future like the mushroom rarebit (apparently they have a vegan version). There is another branch in Castlewellan which is open on Mondays unlike the Newcastle branch. Castlewellan does not have a kitchen so it is a more limited menu....

I used Happy Cow to find a place to eat in Newcastle while on a walking trip to the area and found Birch which is a vegetarian and vegan cafe. I particularly like to support places like this so thought I’d give it a try and I’m really glad I did. The menu had a wide selection and a note that all vegetarian dishes can be made vegan on letting the staff know including pancakes which I haven’t had since I went vegan, although I didn’t order this but will next time. I ordered beans on toast which was slow roasted cannellini beans with red peppers and tomato, served on sourdough toast. I also added tofu. I cleaned my plate, it was so good. Also a latte with oat milk, coconut milk also available....

"On a Monday afternoon, my dining companions and I had a special occasion and decided to try out a unique and intriguing vegan menu at the restaurant. We started with the Beetroot starter, which was delicious and very light. The fermented barley starter had a peculiar taste that I had never experienced before, but it was warm and essential. For the main course, I had the stuffed dish, which was artistic, delicious, and very light. The pudding was advertised as peach, blood orange, and ink red, but it turned out to be sorbet on crispy crumbs, which was still very delicious. We also shared a side of Veg, which was recommended to us as part of the tasting menu. However, we found that the tasting menu lacked enough courses and felt that additional dishes like bread, veggies, and potatoes should be offered to prevent hunger. The prices of the additional dishes were not listed on the menu, and we felt that they could be a bit exaggerated, especially given the cost of a glass of wine at £8. Despite these concerns, we appreciated the creativity and effort put into the menu development and the preparation of the dishes. We recommend trying out this restaurant and supporting their venture, but suggest ordering extra dishes and opting for at least three courses if you're not too hungry. We ended up going elsewhere for coffee and a vegan dessert to feel more satisfied. We were impressed by the fact that the dishes were plant-based rather than just vegan and would definitely consider returning in the future."
